Does anyone really think Maidana's past prime?

Pretty ludacris if you ask me. Big punchers are often overrated, Abraham, Peters, Miranda, Pavlick, Lacy etc. All may have been good boxers but were over rated to some extent.
Maidana's world class but he does rely on his power and work rate to beat people. Against a bigger guy with better skills he will always struggle.

Maidana is one of my favorite fighters, so Its sad to see him lose in such a way... I think he might be past his prime because he's been in many wars during his career. Heart and power can only carry you so far. I hope he has a couple of good fights left in him.

I think so. Look at his early fights. It's as if he get's worse fight by fight.

well its hard to say, maidana defently can be outboxed no question, but it just doesent seem like he is fighting with the same fire that he did a couple of years ago. and fighters to age difrently, just look at hopkins 47 years old and still at the top of the sports, were other fighters like juan diaz retireret at the age of 27. but because of maidanas still, you could make the case for him being past his prime

Nah he seemed bothered by the weight somewhat, just go back to 147 and fight guys that suit him better.

Maidana was always fairly limited but exciting

The only reason it looks as though he may be past prime is because his competition has been stepped up

Put him in with the fighters that got him to the top again and he will look sensational. Put him in with a fighter with skills like DA or Morales and he's never going to look great

I have never rated Maidana , always knew he was a C grade fighter, like a Katsidis or Mickey Ward.

Exciting at his own level , but when faced with speed didnt have any answers.

Cannot believe the hype after beating Ortiz , he was being comapred to Hatton and other ring 140lbs champions.

I see a Glen Johnson type career/record for Maidana, though not as long.

He will maybe have a few spectacular type wins when he catches a couple of the right guys at the right time, but will lose most of the time against the "elite types".

    Many losses.

Well fair play but look at the DeMarcus Corely fight. A boxer who is tough enough to last with Maidana and take his shots will trouble him. Bit like when Pavlik moved up against Hopkins or Abraham against Froch when they couldn't rely on their power.

No, Rene was always a limited fighter. He got plenty of attention for his G attitude, power, and big heart.

Remember how Maidana lost to Kotelnick who Khan dominated. Maidana will always be dangerous against weak chined fighters his own weight but he could never out hustle a good boxer and it's very hard to out slug a bigger boxer. Alexander also benifited from moving up whereas Maidana's a 140lb man.
