I agree, I still feel he's a very dangerous opponent for Canelo but I'm curious to see his offense and output against great defense and countering because we haven't seen him in with with a top level guy until Plant and Andrade will be the best guy he's ever shared the ring with, and at the same time a guy fighting his 2nd? fight at the weight.

I get that you want the fight this bad, I'd like to see it too. However I also understand that from this point on its much bigger business than it was 3 years ago. Some of you guys gotta drop these outdated takes. The "earn your shot" path has been a joke for how long now? Nobody fights the guys that "earn their shots" anymore, all of your favorite fighters have not fought the earn their shot guys lol. And it doesn't even apply to the big money guys and hasn't for a long time now. As much as old fans hate it, boxing is about money more than any other aspect now. Big money guys build a brand with their talent, marketability etc and the guys thst can't line up to hopefully get the financial rub of sharing the ring with them. The way to make the fights happen faster in the modern boxing world is fight other guys that matter and force your shot, it's painfully obvious the ranking systems are for show.

Not as down on it as others here seem to be.

Munguia has been told to step up forever, and this could be his big step up

Im gonna go out on a limb and say Mungia does better than people think, albeit he still loses.

I'd pick Canelo - but this is a more dangerous fight than many believe. In fact, I don't think he'll take it if a Canelo v. Crawford fight @ 168 looks do-able.

Two years ago? It's nearly 100% certain that Canelo wipes out Munguia with a big counter or two. Could still happen that way, but I'm much less sure.

Yes, Munguia is a wild man. But there's a difference in being wild because your clueless (e.g. Deontay Wilder) vs. being wild because your careless. I think Munguia is careless because they've been undermatching him. I think he will obviously respect Canelo and be a bit more careful.

If Munguia is still on his feet after 8 rounds - I think he at least has the potential of making Canelo look old & diminished for the remainder.

ii wouldnt mind it but i would rather see benavidez/Andrade and bivol II

however there really isnt anyone at 160 moving up im interested in

no one really at 168 that i think is interesting, maybe morrel if he develops more or gets a bigger win

beterbiev i doubt he takes that fight and id rather bivol ve beterbiev

that said i dont dislike the mungia fight, not that many options left

But none of Canelos recent opponents have fought anyone to force the shot, its the actual opposite, so this standard is totally hypocritical when it comes to Benavidez. Canelo has fought so many guys that have NOT forced anything, like 40 year old GGG, Bivol, Ryder, Mell, Chavez jnr, Khan, etc. This narrative is trash. In reality Canelo cherry picks who he thinks he can comfortably beat. That is all that matters. He is clearly ducking Benavidez. Apparently you need to build the Benavidez fight for 5 years while everyone else just walks up and gets the fight. lol.

Jamie will be a punching bag for Canelo and an excuse for Canelo to stay away from DB. It will go about 7/8 rounds because Jamie has heart but Canelo will stop him pretty easy.

I do, why not? Jaime is kind of wild in the ring which will make the fight interesting, but he doesn’t have the pop to be a real threat. It should be a fun fight. And then hopefully Benavidez in September so everyone can shut up about it and watch their boy get beat.

Obviously the fight to make is Canelo Benavidez. Forget Munguia.

Again your personal investment is loud and clear, but your reasoning seems to only work one way. Most of those guys you listed have a tag line connected to the fight to make it worthwhile. GGG? You probably were one of the guys claiming Canelo lost both fights to GGG before the 3rd. That guy literally wasted his last useful years in the ring waiting on that check, he wouldn't step near another risk.but alas it was a trilogy fight for a high polarizing matchup. Bivol was a shot at a 2nd belt at 175, had he won that he may have been fool enough to go after Beterbiev. Oh and for those taking score, that's history unified champ in yet another weight class. Ryder was a homecoming fight in Mexico, it didn't matter who he fought there, you or I coulda stepped in for that lol. Jermell was undisputed vs undisputed, yeah the weight class jump stank, but this fight was asked for long before Benavidez could smell the bread. The others I can't say they had any narrative on their side promotion wise. Canelo is the cash cow of the entire sport, whatever rules your angry about don't apply to him no matter how much you hate it. You didn't need to build the Benavidez fight for 5 years but the difference now for David is he can actually come to the table and expect to get paid well to be beat up or do the beating. Also if you're invested in seeing Canelo lose, the longer the fight marinates, the more of a chance Benavides has of winning it. So this works in your favor, or at least it should. Lastly when these guys want a payday from the big dogs they need to stop sitting on their hands scared to make a mistake. Fight big fights and win them. GGG once he got the 1st Canelo fight went into semi retirement waiting on the next 2 paydays when he had a division he could have unified in the calendar year for a bigger trilogy rematch. Benavides hadn't fought anyone of note. Andrade neither. These guys need to fight instead of sitting waiting for a guy who does as he pleases....

No. Like mostly everyone else, I'd rather see Canelo fight Benavidez and he should fight him.
