Yes, I saw him fight Virgil hill for the lightheavyweight title. He had an impressive knockout record, but his style didn't impress me much. The only thing that I really remember from that fight, was when the American national anthem began to play, everyone in the arena stood still except for the foreign Ashley who could have had the decency to stand still while the toon was playing.
Ashley was a fun fighter, no world beater, but he had respectable power, a suspect chin, but a good ticker.
get tae ****! do you mean like how the mexican fans treated Johnny Owen in his bout with Pintor go on ask what they did...
I'm not sure why a fighter is expected to stand still while another's national anthem is being played. If a crowd full of spectators want to sing a patriotic hymn then let them carry on, but it would be the last thing on my mind if I was a fighter psyching myself up to fight the biggest fight of my life. I think I remember Crawford Ashley. A British guy with dreadlocks ? Light-heavy ?
yeah agreed. He wasnt the most fluid of boxers, but he didnt carry a big punch. If my memory serves me, he caught Nunn quite a few times in their bout
Crawford lives near Leeds in England, he had 2 proper shots at the Championship, he fought Mike Nunn in Tennesee, and Virgil in Nevada .. he cleared house in Britain and could bang as hard as hell.. The last time i saw him he boxed as a heavyweight and didn't look that bad.. He was a great character, he is absolutely fearles.. he was working night club security single handed
Fought there, and at Super Middle as well. Very tall. 6'3 I think. Maybe a little taller as Nunn is 6'3 as well.
He's doing okay post boxing? Good to know. He was actually the first fighter to beat Carl Thompson if I'm remembering correctly. Not too bad considering David Haye couldn't manage the same trick at the very END of Thompson's career.
