One of my favorites from the 80's Wonder what ever became of him. He was a very very talented fighter.

Always thought he just nicked the decision over Sanchez. Of course with Pedroza, a completely different style and was soundly beaten. But I liked Ford's style. Tall boxer, lengthy reach, sharp jab. He should have been around longer than he was.

I too thought Ford might have nicked it against Sanchez, who typically did just what was necessary to get by. Pedroza was really hyped up for Pat, and desperately wanted to show Sal up on American television to generate momentum for a unification showdown. After the beating Ford got, he was damaged goods, both physically, and in terms of public perception.

I personally think Sanchez beat him, though by a very narrow margin. I've always wondered how Ford could have done against guys like Juan Laporte, Rocky Lockridge, or Mario Miranda.

Ford actually trained a young Chris Eubank in the second half of '88 after watching him spar as a 5'10 junior-middle with a style of weaving inside. Ford trained under Cus D'Amato after the Pedroza fight and, despite being a 5'10 featherweight, D'Amato insisted he used the peek-a-boo style of ducking and slipping under punches, which resulted in a disastrous loss in his next fight.

Ford felt Eubank should use height and reach to box from a distance.

Guy only had 16 fights when he lost to Sanchez and went on a four fight losing streak, effectively ending his career. :huh

Because Sanchez was just that hardcore, brah!

Nah, Ford was a fighter who posed major stylistic issues to certain fighters (i.e. Sanchez, wouldn't ya know?) and was slim pickings for others. He was no great talent. Maybe Marquez I'd favor him over. The others? Nah.

Well, imo Ford got ruined by Pedroza. I still thought he fought a hell of a fight against Eusebio, but he met him on a night where he dwarfed any other performance he put up for his career imo.

I think the Ford of the Sanchez and Pedroza fights beats those other guys I mentioned, even though his career went to **** afterwards.
