the same bernard hopkins who himself has admitted in the past to being much more natural up at LHW?

hopkins-calzaghe was not at a catchweight.

I'm impressed by his skill set, but am concerned at how easy it can be to put him out of his comfort zone at times, and how he can't keep fighting at his best level for long periods of time against top calibre opponents.

I do rate him, but acknowledge his weaknesses, and in Cardiff, I'd be very surprised if Calzaghe couldn't exploit them.

I agree that the win won't be appreciated staright away, but I think it would bring a general consensus that he would be the man at 175.

As far as the money's concerned I think it would be a big money fight for Calzaghe. As you said he'll fill the millenium stadium no matter who he fights (That's approx 70,000 tickets). I think I'm right in saying that HBO have stated they would back any fight Calzaghe has planned in 2009, as would Setanta or Sky in the UK. Adding to that is the fact Joe has no promoter stealing all his money and he's quids in!

I'd favour Calzaghe 65%-35% if a match-up was made. Dawson looks like he has great potential, but I think it is still potential at this stage; he's not fully developed as a fighter yet, still a bit green.

Why is nationality always always brought up here? Does it matter where a fighters from? Most of my fav fighters aren't British!

I'd rather see Hopkins vs Calzaghe II tbh. I think Dawson is pretty good but hes got a ways to go to get to his peak.

If Dawson had a very good chin, the mental strength and the experience required to implement the right tactics for the whole 12 rounds, I don't think anyone currently fighting from middleweight to cruiserweight could beat him at either 168 lbs or 175 lbs. Unfortunately, no one is perfect. Right now, Dawson is too raw and mentally vulnerable for even this faded version of Calzaghe not to adjust to his style, take him out of his confort zone and dominate him, in my view.

For all of Dawson's great talent and impressive skills, he has some serious flaws, in my view. Hopefully, with experience and hard work, his mental strength will improve and he could turn out to be an excellent fighter within a couple of years - let's not forget he is only 26. What he will not be able to improve upon is his chin. A good puncher and finisher who is able to take the punishment inflicted by Dawson for 8-9 rounds will always have a decent chance of turning the fight around within a couple of seconds. It is sad but true - in boxing, you don't make it to the very highest level unless you have a very good chin, even with very good defence and exquisite offensive skills.
