Does anyone still think that Larry Holmes is always Ali's sparring?

I don't think any heavyweight who ever lived would be a substantial favorite over the Easton assassin .

And I agree with this. The guys at the very top are pretty close to each other in ability.

Rocky Marciano would be heavily favored over Larry Holmes. For good reason. It would probably get to the point that there would be no action. 20-1 25-1. Somewhere in that range.

Not after nearly seven and a half years as champ and 20 defenses, no.

Only after Ali and Louis as the Greatest imo. Watch how he consistently dismantled his opponents. A ring genius with an incredible championship heart.

But I'm so biased...he's my favorite fighter, period. Hope to meet him someday and tell him that.

Holmes's mother and wife would wager on the Brockton Blockbuster!

Holmes unanimously decisions Marciano, each man gets knocked down once (Rocky very shortly by a sneaky-but-solid Holmes overhand, Larry catches a big right but gets right back in control after the kd).

Rocky would miss too much. Too wild. He was a great, great fighter, but watch Shavers against Larry. RM would end up really exhausted even if the fight only went 12. If 15 he'd be looking swoll up and really bad those last three rounds, though I can't see Larry stopping him.

If 35 year old Holmes had retired after his close call against Carl the truth Williams in May 1985 with a 48-0 record and a 7 year, 20 successful defences title reign, would anyone here hold that in higher regard than Marciano’s 3 year, 6 successful title defences 49-0 record?

Holmes is definitely in the top 5 of greatest heavyweights in history. And a very strong argument can be made for top 3. Holmes misfortune is he came along immediately after the greatest and most exciting era in heavyweight history. Possibly boxing history in itself at any weight class. And coming behind the most recognizable figure in ALL sports WORLD WIDE. Not just boxing. It was a impossible act to follow . Holmes Personality didn't help him either.

Yes, name probably the 2 most famous and recognised fighters in boxing history and there’s a fair chance that even the most casual of fans would say Muhammed Ali and Mike Tyson and poor ol’ Larry just happened to have his best days stuck right inbetween the eras of those 2 larger than life characters.

Rocky would put lumps in his head. Holmes left arm would be useless by the mid rounds after Marciano hit it over and over. Eventually the guard creeps down and Rocky shifts his attack to the head. This would be one of Marciano's easier fights.

Bold of you to predict something that has literally never occured in Rocky's professional career
