To get past your bafflement, you'll have to ask the fans who have asserted Lewis was ducked by everyone.

Not sure what Lewis relinquishing belts has to do with Bowe ducking Lewis, or the question posed by this thread.

15% is still ****. Boxing is as much a business as it is a sport.

What has the purse Bowe earned against Holyfield (which excludes the percentage of revenues he received) got to do with it?

    Blackmailing?

I think you're making too much of what was merely posturing - something seen from both camps and which Newman excelled at.

Do you know how big the purse was?

Do you know the typical split of a purse between a Challenger and a Champion?

Yeah - which resulted in Bowe ducking Lewis. What a happy coincidence.

    id favor bowe.

hes as tall as Lennox and had the better jab. The jab would set up the big right hands. Lewis was there to be hit and not too durable. I think Bowe would have stopped Lewis in 1992.

Ruddock was extremely dangerous but had no jab to speak of the disrupt Lewis.

You must not have read the fine details… Bowe is stopped in two if they fought in 1996. Not 1992.

Using your “logic” here…. Bowe is dropped and battered from pillar to post by Golota in 1996… Lewis then destroys Golota in 1……So Lewis beats Bowe, right?

Are you suggesting Lewis couldn’t KO Bowe because he didn’t stop Tua or Mercer? Two guys widely regarded to have iron chins.

Would Bowe beat and stop Tua or Mercer? Are you confident Bowe would beat Briggs, McCall, Bruno, Ruddock, and Morrison? Who did Bowe fight that punched as hard as ANYONE on that list??

To be honest I’m more of a Bowe fan than Lewis, but I’m looking at this from an unbiased point of view. I’m not evening arguing the very good possibility that Bowe beats Lewis in 1992. I think it’s 50/50.

I’m surprised a “boxing addict” such as yourself would use such logic. The examples refuting your arguments are endless.

I guess I’ll go back to watching female synchronized swimming now

He was backing up because Lewis was taking his headset off. As i said before Bowe was a little drunk with adrenaline from just winning a great fight.

No, Futch and Newman held him. The PPV commentator mentionned after that Joe Cortez (who's not seen from the angle of the video) separated the two fighters.
Bowe was right in front of Lewis.

Why giving elements of context is seen as making excuses ?
There's nothing wrong with looking at the whole picture and not be satisfied with a simplistic reading grid.

It's a possibility. Bruno gave Lewis a hell of a fight and Bowe was as big as Bruno and was faster and more fluid. So yeah, Bowe had a good chance.

Because the belt shenanigans didn't involve highly regarded fighters the public wanted Lewis to face.

Ruiz was a complete unknown without any wins of substance when Lewis was stripped for not facing him.

How many belts did he give up to avoid a challenger again?
