Does anyone think Roberto Duran deserves a higher ATG ranking than Sugar Ray Leonard?

I say their even. Duran wasnt expected to beat fighters like Hagler, Hearns, Cuevas, Barkley, Marcel, and most of all the cream of the crop, Leonard. But he did. With no catchweights too.

Duran is greater, did someone compare duran to mayorga - All time low for ESB.

Duran reigned champ for a decade at LW, went up to beat a prime ATG WW when he was past his best, went up to be competetive with a ATG MW when he was clearly not the same fighter he once was, Leonard even said that Duran was greatest out of the Fab 4, Duran was near if not already on the same level as Hagler (when he retired) before he even stepped up to fight leonard, when he was shot he beat Brakley. Greatest LW ever and not even competetive he was great Technically one of the greatest offensive fighters of all time and also had a great defence.

Well considering the 4 best fighters at the time were Hagler, Leonard, Duran and Hearns :

    Hagler : 2 - 1 (KO3 Hearns - UD Duran)
    Hearns : 1 - 2 - 1 ( KO2 Duran Draw Leonard )
    Duran : 1 - 4 (UD Leonard)
    Leonard : 4 - 1 ( KO8 Duran - TKO14 Hearns - UD Hagler - Draw Hearns )

Id rate Leonard higher than Duran, Hagler and Hearns soley based on this record.

Funny back in the day the 4 best fighters had no problem fighting each other and today we cant get one fight signed.

Golden era of boxing to me, Still for Durans size he was an incredible fighter

It was 3 fighters from the same era, Duran was a decade before all these guys, To even be considered in the same league was an acheivment for a snaller older past prime fighter, his LW career = Haglers career

horrible way to rate them!!! this is terrible logic.

you can't rate them based on their fights with each other because before they started fighting each other Duran was already an ATG and the greatest lightweight ever!! Rating him based on his fights with the fab 4 means throwing away his 72-1 lightweight record! His fights vs the fab 4 were just icing on the cake to his already established ATG career. Leonard has these fab 4 fights only along with Benitez and the bogus SMW/LHW Lalonde steeze which doesn't even remotely compare to Durans LW reign. Add to that fact Duran was a blown up LW and arguably did just as well vs Hagler and went 1-1 vs Leonard (their 3rd fight not counting cause it was pointless and wayyyyy past their primes).

exactly!!! people that group him with the 80's are dead wrong, he was a 70's fighter who was so good he was able to move up in weight and compete in the 80's vs some of the greatest ever in one of the greatest eras ever against guys that were all MUCH bigger than him.

I think some of us who watched all of these fighters, may have it home to the younger generation that Duran was older and smaller than the other fab 4 fighters. He was 71-1 when he first fought the first of these fighters and he beat a prime SRL. The fact he lost later as he continued to age and wasn't always in the best of shape shouldn't distract from his accomplishments. Had he been losing to lightweights or even jr welterweights perhaps he could be punished in terms of ratings, but to loose to someone like Hearns at 154, then given Hagler all he could handle and beat the guy that beat Hearns twice, is one hell of an accomplishment. In fact I'd go so far as to say that the Duran-Barkley fight in one of my favourite fights of all time. Every time I watch it I'm blown away by the skill of Duran and the size difference between the two. Never mind the age difference. That fight alone puts him in an elite category in my books, never mind the wins over SRL, Moore, and what he did at lightweight. When he was on his game he truly was as good of a boxer as any who ever put on gloves. Snd the biggest difference was that he was more than a boxer, he was a fighter. So against Barkley he used his boxing skills to avoid getting hit, and he used his fighting skills to stay in the pocket and knock Barkley down. So in terms of combining the two he was probably the best ever, maybe rivaled only by Greb.

They both were great, although Duran never got the judges favor like Suger did various times.

Another thing. When Suger fought Hagler, he lost. I do not care what is history, I saw the fight and Hagler hung up his gloves because of the
    fiasco decision. Pure shameful.:?:-(
