Does Anyone Think That Calzaghe Vs. Roy Jones Jr. Is on The Horizon?

After Roy tears the ass off of an old, outsized, and inactive Feliz Trinidad he will again feel like a P4P fighter and his fan base will be re-energized. I suspect that he will then look to redeem what has been lost of his legacy by fighting Calzaghe at either 168lbs or 175lbs.

Meanwhile, Calzaghe will probably take a big money fight with Bernard, which he will win by means of being the active fighter between the two. I also suspect that a big money fight with a declined Roy Jones Jr. who he figures to beat will hold quite the allure as a retirement fight. It makes perfect sense in the next year or two that he would want to add to his legacy by fighting huge names from his generation- especially after beating two young dangerous fighters and still not recieving credit from some people.

Anyone else feeling this scrap in the near future? :think

Nope. Joe Calzaghe will not feel the need to fight RJJ. He is a shot fighter and Joe will not get any credit for beating him.

^^^^ completely agree with this right here. Joe C has everything to lose and nothing to gain by beating Jones or Hops for that matter. He wont get much credit for beating either one and I dont believe he should. Not saying I wouldn't like to see the fight because of Jones somehow pulled off the victory he would get a TONNNNN amount of credit.

I get the feeling it's not impossible, with Calzaghe deservingly in looking for high profile $$$ fights before riding off to the sunset.

I do not think this fight will happen unless b hop is full of **** and prices himself out of the fight with jc. Then it might happen but imo Rjj beats jc as i am rjj fan thats great but im also a brit and would not want to see jc get beat at this stage and lose some of the respect he has now received. I think jc vs bhop is a great fight for jc fingers crossed

If Jones owns Trinidad, I think a fight with Calzaghe is a near certainty for the reasons you state.

Especially if Hopkins ducks Calzaghe as I fear will happen. Jones will then see that as a perfect opportunity to 'get one over' on Hopkins and Calzaghe and end his career with a flourish.

Of course, more than likely Calzaghe will bash Jones up at this stage. But if Jones destroys Trinidad maybe he'll have the confidence to take Calzaghe on.

Yes it's a possibility, Joe is about the money, he even says so himself. If Jones gets past Trinidad then it could generate some interest and a lot more money than Dawson/Pavlik/Taylor etc.

No. Jones would be too scared to take this fight. He does not want to be KO'd by Calzaghe. Jones will avoid this fight by making all kinds of unrealistic financial demands and by saying he can't fight in Wales. Real reason is palbable FEAR!

He shouldn't fight him but he after the Kessler fight he said: "Bring on Hopkins and Roy Jones".

I guess it all depends on what Joe C wants.

If it's money, it makes sense. But if it's for his legacy, it doesn't make sense because he has little to gain if he wins and everything to lose if he loses.

I guess it also depends on how confident Joe C is that he can beat RJJ.

    I think Calzaghe will fight:

    a) Bernard Hopkins or
    b) Jones-Trinidad winner

In fact, they are already in negociations with Hopkins.

It MIGHT happen eventually, but I suspect it would never happen as long as FW is Joe's promoter. Both FW and RJJ are too stubborn to get any kind of deal done together, unless there are literally no other big money fights available to both of them.

If he does then he will go out fighting bums just like he did for about 10-15 fights after he won his title against Eubank(sorry Roy you are shot). Anything less than Bute, Dawson, or Hopkins at this point would be very dissapointing.
