You don't think that it's possible, the whole breadth of boxing's history has produced more great fighters than one particular era (current)?

Boxing's best days in terms of participation and competition are behind it too. I'm as big a fan of Mayweather as you can be without wearing pants on your head (and somehow also down to your ankles) but given the state of the WW scene he has stood out from, I have no doubt the top WWs of other eras would have defeated him here and there.

At SFW though, different story :deal

Vague generalizations like this one are doomed to be inaccurate.

Well, define "old timers". Are we talking fighters from the grainy old films, or fighters with no footage? Anyway to answer your question: No.

duran is overrated pfp for sure, rating him above ali pfp is laughable, ali did beat every legend that he faced whene he was not a shot. duran lost against every legend that he faced, (i know i know.. he was a natural lw , his rivals were bigger blablabla) but the facts are facts, duran did beat guys like buchanan, de jesus, benitez, barkley, cuevas, and he lost against leonard, hagler and he was raped by hearns) it is very good but not that great. sugar ray robinson was a natural small welter and he did beat the all time great big mw lamotta tons of times. duran is overrated in every sense

If anything I would have to say that the old time boxers are underrated today, especially by the young casual fan.

Fighting is one of those sports where you get better via experience. Therefore wouldn't it logically make sense that someone who has been in the ring hundreds of times would know opponents tendencies better, what works an what doesn't? etc etc

I think the ones before the 1920s are overrated like Gans, Fitzsimmons, and Langford, but most of the champs from the 30s to the 60s would be champs in todays era. I think the old heavyweights probably get the most overrated because a lot of them wouldn't be heavyweights today. They'd be cruisers or light-heavyweights instead. Other than that, I think the old timers mostly know what they are talking about and have the film to back it up.

I think that old timers are overrated on P4P lists .
I also doubt de legitimacy of many of their fights .
And there were catchw8s & cheating back then as well BTW .
I do believe that many of their listed results were in fact exhibitions or public
    sparring sessions .

A few of them might b under8ed though , surely if comparing them 2d more famous .

Boxing was a mainstream sport, now it is second to UFC. Champions fought everyone and they fought regularly, now they cherry pick and fight once or twice a year.

SRR would KTFO of all current 160 and below. Too bad he isn't around to do it.
