It is true that Mayorga is way past his best...and he was never that good in the first place...but he is not more shot than Vargas, is he? He is just past his best...Vargas WILL outbox him, but for 12 rounds? I don't see it...eventually blows will be landed in a brawl, and Mayorga has more pop than Vargas...so you do the maths...no?

just because he will try doesnt mean vargas will let him.... if its up to vargas, he will be a boxer slugger and if it does turn into a brawl, vargas brawls in close to his opponents, mayorga does not like that... mayorga usually succeeds in brawls where he can get his opponent retreating and he catches them at the end of his haymakers, when vargas is in close he will be firing short, compact hooks.... imo mayorgas haymakers will not be so effective in close like that.... and thats WHEN and IF vargas chooses to engage in a brawl.

If vargas uses his strength, jab, combos and movement.... he doesnt have to allow mayorga to lure him into a brawl. (*ike, campas, tried against trinidad but trinidad is fast as hell, accurate, and throws straight down the middle or textbook left hooks)

and yes, vargas aint the same but this isnt exactly vintage mayorga eather... hopefully.

you think mayorga has more pop then vargas? why so exactly?

if you asked oscar and tito... i bet you they say that vargas punches harder.

also... i doubt mayorga would put away ross thompson like vargas did, and i dont know if mayorga could drop castillejo eather....

mayorga has power no doubt... but lets remember he fought at 147 where his power shined... i bet you if vargas fought those same opponents his power would have shown up great too.

basically what everyone else has said, vargas has a better toolset, is the bigger fighter, and probably hits harder

You seriously believe Vargas can have it his own way for 12 rounds, dictating the pace, the rhythm, the gameplan? Won't he get tired by the later rounds...won't Mayorga force him into the brawl, whether he wants to or not?

Why did he hit without any power against Mosley? Is his power going to be better now?

There's no doubt Vargas was the much better boxer/fighter in their prime...no doubt he beat the kind of guys Mayorga could never have! But that was then...isn't Vargas far more shot than Mayorga?

Were you impressed with Vargas' power in his last fight? He looked spent to me, no?

The fights not going the distance either way, it'll be a brawl and will be over in 5. Since Vargas' chin has severely declined, as does he have a bad back and weight problems, not to mention his defence is no great to begin with, I see Mayorga catching him and putting him away.

Mayorga definitley hits harder than Mosely, who put Vargas away with a good shot, the hay makers will land and Vargas won't catch Mayorga with shots like Hoya did.

Mayorga KO 3. Mayorga's going to come out trying to blast him and it'll work.

Like i said... even when they do brawl... vargas doesnt brawl usually from the outside, he comes into the opponent, that makes mayorgas shots waaaay more innefective...

and he wont get any more tired then mayorga will.... which will effect mayorgas speed, output, power, ect as well.

basically, what im saying.... is that when vargas can outbox mayorga, he will.... and when it turns into a brawl i dont really see vargas being there at the end of mayorgas punches, and when he does... hes not weight drained and has a good camp so i think he can absorb enough to get the job done. Mosley hit him a million times in their first fight without vargas wobbling.... imo vargas was dead drained in the rematch and it showed in the result.

at 166.... i just dont see it happening.

    * im not saying mayorga wont win rounds here and there
    * and im not even saying this is what i think will happen, im giving you a, IMO, realistic scenario of what could happen.

What is mayorga gonna do when a heavier, stronger vargas (maybe stronger... who really knows) is in the pocket with him, going ferociously to the body?

    its all a big ??????????

    yes he did.

i attribute that to the weight drain.....

at 166, i dont see it being a problem.

but he fought castillejo not too long ago (before he went up and stopped middlweight sturm) and he dropped him in their fight, and dominated him.

Though i think mayorga would win i dont think he would drop castillejo.

Also, these days mayorga doesnt even throw the kind of haymakers that made him famous... they are not as fast and now half the time he throws basically an all arm haymaker when back in the day he would throw it with all of his arm/waist/back....

i dont think mayorga hits all that much harder then vargas, if he does at all.

Thank you for your analysis - the best one so far!:good

I think Mayorga will try and pop that chin, when Vargas goes to the body...I also think that the weight-loss will not have been easy for Vargas, even if he doesn't have to kill himself to make weight...overall, together with his medical problems which stopped him in his tracks altogether for 2 weeks, they are going to have a big word to say in Varga's stamina, strength and punch power.

    No?

They will both beat everyone that's buying the crappy PPV... after the controversial fight, they will set for a rematch and go and get some burritos together.
