To me, this is one of his greatest strengths. I'm watching reznick's highlight again and it's just astounding how he can throw live KO punches over such a small distance. Does anyone even come close?

People today dont realize how strong young Joe Louis was...At 2oo lbs.he was powerfully built...The best description of Louis's style was " Louis was
a coil spring unwinding"..Very apt description of his short punching ability..
And watch Dempsey's short one-two knockout of Firpo in rd two...So fast
you can barely see the punches, but you can sure see the results...

I don't know about better than Louis, but two guys who come to mind for me are Tyson and Chavez.

Wow, Chavez was my pick, also, but Louis is the best. Poetry in motion.

    Diego Corrales.

No, he's not up to the level of Joe Louis in this area, I don't think anyone truly is, I just wanted to name him as a very good short puncher.

There may be fighters that can throw a short punch as well as Louis did. I have never seen anyone who could put those short punches together in piston-like combinations as well as Joe Louis.

No argument there. Chavez was very damaging with those short punches and the accumulation was brutal. The Brown Bomber was a little more humane in the long run because it was usually lights out pretty quickly.
