DIANEVER Orcales is potentially two fights away from creating South Australian boxing history.

The problem is no one wants to fight him.

The Parafield Gardens boxer holds the Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) Super Bantamweight title and must defend it two more times to get a shot at a World Boxing Association (WBA) belt - a title never held by a South Australian.

But without fighters to challenge him, Orcales faces being stripped of his PABA belt before getting a crack at a world title.

“I reckon people are scared of me - it’s been the same since I was younger,” Orcales, 33, says. “A world title would be great, it would be a dream come true.”

    Orcales last fought in September.

PABA representative of the Oceania region Brad Vocale says because Orcales is not yet ranked in the top 10, big-name fighters will not challenge him.

But Vocale says Orcales needs to get regular fights to climb up the rankings.

“Once you are in the top 10, people will look at you,” Vocale says. “I feel sorry for him, he hasn’t been given any real opportunities to fight.”

The News Review Messenger reported last year that Orcales and his trainer, Terry Fox, had to pay their own way to take on a fighter in Japan after the fights dried up in Australia.

With no Australians prepared to get in the ring, Orcales and Fox are taking matters into their own hands again. They’ve organised a bout with Indonesian fighter James Mokoginta at Melbourne’s Footscray Croatian Club on March 9.

Fox says he has paid $11,000 to fly Mokoginta and his coach in for the bout.

“I reckon (Orcales) is a great chance to win a world title,” Fox says. “He’s fit, he’s ripped, he’s smart - he just needs the chance.”:patsch
