Vic did show improved "D", but again....Mijares was fighting scared. He was weary of Vics power especially b/c Chris dosen't have power himself or not very much of it to get Vics repsect. And I wouldn't say it was the best preformance of the year when we had great fights like Bhop over Pav, PAC over DLH and Marg over Cotto. I do agree that Vic is his own worse enemy. He is talented...he has power but his OVER CONFIDENCE or COCKINESS is evident even when he fights. He'll let his hands down and OVER WING his punches with out a care in the world. With a real puncher he'll pay the price if they are willing to trade with him as Nonito was. And Donier isn't a heavy handed fighter. He's just a real crisp, accurate puncher with soild boxing skills. I still saw holes and flaws in Vic's Technique.....I did with PAC as well early on. Both Vic and PAC seem to be able to overcome reason and logic given their rawness....moreso with VIC! And I'm not sold on Vics chin! I think it's decent but his POWER is what makes Vic the force he is today. When he got tested on the chin he went down. It was a great punch but it came from a fighter that doesn't have ONE PUNCH KO power like VIC. I still have my reservations about the GREATNESS of VIC. I know he's a very GOOD champion and very dangerous, but I'm not sure he'll beat the best technical fighters who arent afraid of his power.
Yes, it does remain to be seen whether Darchinyan can perform as well against (other) techincal fighters, especially in the light of his weaknesses that we all agree on, but I think everyone should be weary of his power - even the best chinned out there. With improved defence and technique, timing and distance and the right strategy, he should not be seen as a clear underdog against anyone, if indeed he is fully focussed and motivated, in my view. On the other hand, as others have said, we should expect him to fall short against lesser fighters, when we least expect it. Best performances of the year? We agree on these again: Hopking vs. Pavlik, Margarito vs. Cotto, Pacquiao (various) and why not Darchinyan vs. Mijares?
You are absolutely correct! This was one of the top preformances! I'd say it's up there with PAC vs Diaz! or maybe even ahead of PAC vs Diaz. And yes....Vics power anyone who is fighting him should be weary about. I think anyone who is NOT ends will end up hurt badly. But VIC brings CHARISMA that is evident to all he does..in and out of the ring. I think that is seen by his opponents and VIC wins the mental edge 9 times out of 10. The one time he didn't was with Nonito....of course VIC thought he won the mental edge..but Nonito did not which was a big factor. I do agree Vic has imporved. I just hope he doesn't take Arce lightly or fight the wrong fight I do like VIC. He's cocky and that is alright but you said it.....he can be his own worse enemy if he gets to ahead of himself.
Chance? Jesus . . . of course he does have a chance. even if it's 75/25 in favor of Darchinyan . . . 25% is still a chance. One solid punch in the right button changes everything in boxing. :deal
Arce is still dangerous. Vic has been knocked out before, he has shown he can be hurt to the head and body. Arce doesnt do most things as well as he did but he can still whack very hard. I wont count him out until the Vic has his hand raised.
You people just doesn't learn . . . if the feather fisted Sahir Raheem can put Eric Morales down in the canvas what makes you think Arce has no chance against Darchinyan? I'm not saying it's gonna happen . . . but the chance is there.
So to agree completely I'll climb down a bit and say I can see Darchinyan floored/hurt quite a few times by none-too-special fighters, and beaten by 3-4 of the best around his weight as well as in the odd upset. You've got to love Vic, though, for all his faults and shortcomings and inconsistencies. Greatness? Too oft overused, and Darchinyan wouldn't insist on that label either, for all his cocky arrogance, but he is a real Champion and he's very much fun to watch and listen to. My sober prediction for his fight against Arce: a war, with many close rounds. Darchinyan better have enough left in the tank for the mid to late rounds. He'll need it against Arce. Darchinyan needs to show us all that he's stepped up for good, that he's building on the Mijares performance. Arce shouldn't be underestimated, though. It sounds as if he's prepared very well for this fight. His last hurrah...the upset isn't out of the question, faded/shot as well as he might be. Darchninyan UD (4 rounds+) 35% Darchinyan KO (late; Arce retirement mid-late) 30% Arce KO (7-9) 25% Arce UD (very close) 10%
Thats a strange comparison but I agree that Arce could knock out Vic..Its a definite chance. Also I didnt think Raheem dropped Erik..just staggered him into the ropes a couple of times.
Of course he does even that Arce is not the same fighter he once was he still can pull it off. First couple of big punches that he lands to the chin could be light's out for Vic.
you people? -STFU FOB! you dont gotta go back a couple of years ago to point out upsets. i look at the clash of styles and the fact that arces' on the decline. besides, i just dont like that cowboy lollipop sucka.
Arce has good power and he'll be motivated by Vic's trash talking. Vic better watch out for that right when he comes in. Arce definitely has a chance because Vic sometimes gets off balance a will give you some openings to land your power shots.

Yeah fair enough..Its just I really dont recall Erik getting dropped in that fight but I could be wrong. Also the situation is more or less reverse..Erik was the past prime fighter coming up to fight a bigger, prime Raheem. Whereas Arce is one the getting past his best and Vic is the naturally bigger and closer to his peak fighter. Just nitpicking thats all
