The best fighters Hopkins fought that were natural middles or super middles were Roy Jones, Joe Calzahge, and J Taylor. Hopkins didn't win a fight here. We'll he beat a well past it Roy Jones but hopefully my point has was made. Roy Jones easily schooled Hopkins when they meet in their primes. The best name wins on Hopkins resume were Trinidad and De La Hoya. these are blown up light weight sand welter weights. Hopkins has longevity and a good skill set, but top 20 all time? Not even close.
Of course you include Taylor becaue he lost both fights controversaly,Pavlik vas Taylors daddy and Hopkins take him to school.styles makes fights.some could argue Pavlik was better MW than Taylor.just saying. Calzaghe fight was scored to Calzaghe yes, however again the winner is highly debatable. Jones Jr. Was only MW or SMW who had Hopkins number, and was better man and clearly won but yes all of those mens won against Hopkins.Hopkins also lost to Clinton Mitchell if we only go to boxrec and look Hopkins record. Maybe you dismiss also Hopkins run in LHW because he lost to Dawson, altough Hopkins beat the man who beat Dawson. Hopkins has clearly lost only 2times between 1988-2014 and that's amazing feat no matter what.and now he challenges himself against Kovalev unbeaten young hungry lion.if Hopkins wins of course haters easily could say Taylor and Calzaghe were better.simply because boxrec had Hopkins losing.
No way but he has accomplished a lot in boxing and his longevity even if aided by steroids is impressive. Still I can't wait for the Krusher to put a whooping on him and send him out of boxing on his back.
I have him as a top 25-30 ATG right now. If he beats Kovalev at 50 unifying the division a top 20 isn't out of the question.
Sure it does Does falsely claiming to be TBE make him a better fighter ( Mayweather)? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does falsely claiming to be a legend killer ?(Calzaghe) NO!!! Does claiming to be THE GREATEST ? !! (Ali) YES !!!Because he was Does still kicking ass of guys young enough to be his kids at 50 years old ?? (Hopkins) Hell Yes!!!!!!!:good:goodThe Alien:good:good
Huge Bernard fan here, but I can't call him a top 20, let alone top 5. I'm not saying he isn't great, but boxing has a deep rich history. He's one of a kind, though, and definitely one of the very best ever. But even at middleweight, I have a hard time ranking him above the likes Hagler, Greb, Monzon, and Robinson. But for middleweight, Hopkins is definitely in that discussion.
Bernard Hopkins did not LOSE to either Taylor or Slappy Calzaghe. they both got gifts Nard was shafted 3 times The only fight he LEGITIMATELY lost were Jones jr 1, later avenged & Dawson II
Agreed that the only 2 he clearly lost were RJJ1 and CD2, and even then Hopkins was competitive in both cases. For what it's worth, I did think Taylor beat Hopkins in their first fight, and I thought it was an extremely easy fight to score (115-113 for Taylor). Hopkins just gave up too many early rounds. In the first 8 rounds, I only had Hopkins winning the 5th - and it was at that point I thought he would take over the fight, but he kind of let Taylor off the hook a bit in that one over the next 3 rounds. Then in rounds 9 through 12, Hopkins dominated the fight with ease, and those rounds were not close like the early ones Taylor was winning on activity. But scoring round-by-round, I did think Taylor just edged him out by surviving and staying on his feet when he was getting roughed up down the stretch. The 2nd Taylor fight, however, I thought was a disgrace. Had them even after 6, and Hopkins clearly took all but the 11th in the final 6 rounds. So I had Hopkins 116-112 in the rematch. Against Calzaghe, it really could have gone either way, but I had Hopkins 114-113.
:rofl You're the #1 hardcore bhop fan of this forum and I admire your dedication but Calzaghe beat him fair and square in his own backyard. Hopkins was lucky he didn't have points deducted for headbutting and shamed himself for faking he was hurt from low blows. Calzaghe still outlanded Hopkins in every single round while not in good form and having a sub par performance.
