Bernard caught Joe coming in with a sneaky right hand that Joe didn't see. As far as who has more power though, I don't know.
Kessler hits harder as does many other punchers on joes record, bernard through a well timed shot which caught Joe coming in, it was the timing which put joe down not just power.
Hurt is a very broad term. Calzaghe was off-balance, got caught with a really great short right, fell back and got back up showing no effects. He was 'hurt', but not really. Never in trouble. I would say Hopkins at 185-190 pounds on fight night did/does hit harder than Calzaghe's past opponents. He was noticebly bigger than Calzaghe, which was the main reason I thought Calzaghe was f*&%ed. But, live and learn. Calzaghe has unparalled ability to adapt to other fighters' styles.
I think he was 'shocked' more than hurt, I'd definitely say he wasn't hurt. If he WAS hurt... hurt properly, then Hopkins must be a well **** boxer not to have noticed and pressed his advantage. Watched the fight a few times and to be honest people, Joe walked through Bernards shots all night. Cut it how y'all want to Calzaghe haters, and delude yourselves if you think Hopkins won (or it was a draw), but Joe never took a backward step or retreated the whole fight, not for a second. And that's just the way it was.
I'd say that the Uppercuts Kessler landed on Calzaghe had more heat on them than anything BHop landed on Calzaghe
No he doesnt hit harder than Kessler. He just has better timing and accuracy. Hense why he was able to catch Joe coming in...with (and I said this over and over again leading up to the fight) a shot he never really saw coming.
He admitted it in the post fight interview. He said first that Bernard just "caught him off balance", then when he was asked again, he laughed, admitting to joking about the off balance thing and said "of course" he hurt him. But he recovered well and quickly..which he deserves phenominal credit for. I mean, if someone had told us that he would taste the canvas in the 1st round vs Bernard...and that he would still get a close W...we would have laughed that guy off of the forums. Bernard is a TOUGH fighter to adapt to...Joe did that well. Honestly, Im still amazed by it. BUT, he was hurt. Admittingly from his own mouth.
Joe was hurt alright, even if only for a few seconds or so, he was buzzed by a punch he didn't see coming.
Look at calzaghe's feet. Bernard caught him flush when he was off balance. Now credit is due to bernard because he set up the counter and he was doing excellent those opening rounds, making calzghe miss ect. Calzaghe wasnt seriously hurt by the punch. Im sure it didnt feel good, but he wasnt in danger of being stopped or anything.
