Don't believe the age of the sport has to do with it no longer progressing. American baseball is about as old at least as Queensberry rules Boxing, and the current MLB athletes are about as high level as ever. I agree more with the fact that there is a lot more competition from other sports now than 50-100 years ago and young talented kids aren't being pushed into a violent sport anymore like they had to do out of necessity in those days. The US still produces the overall best athletes in the world, it has the population, the resources, the reason its boxing dominance has declined is because they all go to other sports now.
