Does Boxing need a Bosman style case to clean up the sport?

    Imagine a fighter who had won and unifield the WBA title then objected to the WBA sanctioning a WBA Ordinary title or an Interim title.

    We need a money man to back an active champion who fits this mould and secure court injunctions to prevent Micky Mouse versions of titles being sanctioned.

    If fighters got litigious like promoters the sanctioning bodies may become more conservative in following their own rules

    didnt the german-pole darius whatshisname take the WBC to court over roy jones and won like $30 million off them and it hasnt seemed to stop that shower.

    Yeah, and he was persuaded to drop his case, in light of the considerable amount of good that the WBC had brought to the sport.

    I'd love to know what exactly that is, but hey-ho.

    i believe the top boxers in each division need to come together in a union and announce that they dont recognise certain title organisations and will stick with say the ring title as the only real title for each weight,and reject all these different b/s titles such as interim and gold bling bling spinning title ect.

    but its slim chances that any will be bothered to fight the commisions the title organisations AND the promoters.

    The problem is.... the only people that benefit out of a truly ''clean'' and ''transparent'' sport are the fans.

    I'm sure a bum like Victor Ortiz would love to have same day weigh-ins/maximum rehydrate %, and only one organisation handing out titles.

    He'd have absolutely **** all, as would most current American fighters on the HBO payroll.

    No offence meant, but that is very naive. You could set up an organization tomorrow, and Roman Abramovich may take a dislike too it. But all the Courts in Britain and Europe will not stop you and your organization, as there is no law to stop it.

    The Alphabet organizations generate monies. Most of it goes to the Promoters and a little drops through to the boxers. The TV companies like being able to bill a bout as for a world title and promoters will be able to bill a bout as a world title fight, thus increasing the attendance of the bill. Everyone wins, to one degree or another.

    Anyone with even smallest amount of knowledge in the sport, knows that, that local 20 and 10 journeyman fighter from North London who holds the colinthfc World Welterweight crown is not in Lil Floyd's or Manny's league. But if that title gets him as £50,000 pay day rather than a £40,000 one, good on him, why does that need to be stopped?

    Titles mean sweet fa, best fight best then i'm happy. Hopkins beat Pascal and refused to pay IBO sanctioning fee. Good on him..
