Naw, but he does have to put it all on the line, and the fight has to be close. If he loses like that he can be forgiven but if he loses bad, he will maybe have to move up to 160.

 

exactly what I was thinking. If it was close and he lost, then especially if Lara were to then beat Mayweather he would be fine.

If he gets blown out... that would be tougher. At the end of the day, Mexicans will still love him and he still would have a fan friendly style. PPV would not be an option though I think.

Everything happens for a reason.

If he loses, he'll have to bounce back like every champion who ever lost always did. It is highly likely that Canelo can actually gain more fans in the long run if he loses than if he wins. People love to root for losers, underdogs, and fighters coming off of loses.

If Broner can beat Matthysse fairly, he may gain some fans back and get right back on track to being one of the fighter who will take over the PPV seat.

If Canelo loses, too bad for him for now, he will have to get back on the winning trail. Canelo-Trout 2, Devon Alexander, Clottey, Kirkland all sound like good comeback fights. So he loses to Lara, and doesn't get the Cotto fight or Mayweather rematch, or Pacquiao...the guy is young and had no amateur background basically. In his case, losses will help him learn, he is a young 24 years old, not an old 24 years old.

 

If he has star power, then he has star power and a loss to a fighter who many think will beat him will not change that.

No loss ever lead fans to stop liking Duran, Chavez, Tyson, Pacquiao, Ali. If fans like you then they like you and that's really all there is to it.

Canelo winning or losing will have little to no effect on the current state of boxing. Even if he beats Lara in spectacular fashion *which I seriously doubt) he is and never be a Chavez, Sr., or anywhere close to that status.

Actually, Canelo seems to be a very boring personality. In this pre-fight, it has been Lara is doing all of the pre-fight hype and supplying the media with quotes and comments. Canelo has been as exciting as a stick in the mud.
It seems to me that Lara is the real superstar and boxer who is the best for the sport.

Yes I would think so.

Even if Lara wins handily it won't do much for him do to his boring style. Like it pretty much did nothing for Rigondeaux for beating Donaire, or Trout for beating Cotto.
