Been a big boxing fan for years and always wanted to start training. But Im worried if anything every happened on the street I could really hurt someone. Im good at most sport, stocky built with a bit of power. So with some training and knowing what Im doing could be a bit of a problem if a drunken brawl happens. 1) Wondered if you guys that train properly have any urge to fight outside the ring, or if boxing in the gym couple times a week lest the aggression out making you less likely to fight on the street. 2) Have any of you had street fights against untrained people? What happened?
I regret that I have written this commentary, I delete it. Sorry, I dont think it was a good idea, anyway I asume you read my answer, so you can have an overall idea. Regards.
I agree with you 100%. I always avoided the 1 inch punch when I used to do Kung Fu. If I learned that technique and someone got a bit too close, that mother ****er would have died, specially if I'd had a few drinks.
I suppose the urge to fight may be a bit stronger but it can also work the other way around and make you more disciplined. Anyway, I've been training like a boxer for some time now and have never gotten in a fight but if someone would mess with my family or something, I wouldn't hesitate to use the skills.
Depends on personality type I guess, I boxed for some years and felt no need to street fight except for self defence, worked in a rough public bar and was more content in talking someone down rather than roughing Em up, I guess for me boxing gave me a quet confidence more than a tool to beat up on folks.
It's a complete difference between a trained vs untrained fighter to the point where it is kind of shameful to have an urge to pick on a 'weaker' person in that respect. Usually too tired from training to want to fight. Only allowed myself to box with someone untrained once, bunch of friends were drunk slap boxing when I got home from a long trip. They kept asking me to do it but I declined. Finally got tired of them asking when one person wanted to go just one minute with me. Being untrained, he just came straight in and started swinging wildly at the body. I had my guard up so all it did was bounce off my arms and elbows, I remember crowding him and then giving a small shove with my body which threw him off balance since he had no stance. As soon as his head turned to the side, I came over top with a right open handed hook with a lot of snap and at proper range. He spun with his back toward me, I threw a couple jabs at his shoulder and stopped since he wasn't fighting back. He quit after that and it felt like I had almost broken my hand from how hard I hit him. It is because of that experience that I don't go looking for fights outside of the ring. You can hurt someone badly and get in trouble or you can get seriously injured just from hitting someone.
Yes. Boxing you could literally kill an untrained person so no fighting out of the what so ever. After boxing for a certain amount of time your hands become lethal weapons and you can be charged if you get into a street fight here in the US. My old friend Pedro an experienced amateur, got in serious trouble because he KO'd a guy. They found out he was an amateur boxer and he got in deep ****. Even though he was only 160 and the guy he KO'd was a huge
Best way to avoid getting into a drunken brawl is to not drink and stay out of bars. If you're serious about boxing, you shouldn't be spending a lot of time in places like that anyway.
it all depends on your mind and if you've got a stupid attitude towards people who are obviously not fighters but gobby and think they can take on the world, if you retaliate to these people and you've trained alot in boxing and can easily pogger him then your stupid. i think straighteners are different. an arranged fight to settle a dispute. but an out and out street fight where you could get picked up on CCTV and end up getting nicked and all that there or where you could fight someone who might stab you is just stupid.
