Roy Jones was clearly past his prime and Calzaghe mucking about Jones was pretty pathetic and disrespectful if you ask me.
Credit for that fight? Hmmm, somehow i have problems. Don´t get me wrong. JC is a great fighter and he made a superb fight, but he should have fought Jones 7 or 8 years ago. Then i wanna know if he would muck about him that way.

were you equally as disgusted when roy toyed and humiliated overmatched fighters like glen kelly and richard frazier?

does he deserve credit? not really, roy has failed to adapt with old age unlike his old philly rival. joe got the job done, that's about it.

its not about does he deserve credit, its about giving him the right amount of credit.

I predicted a wide Calzaghe UD. I didn't expect him to get knocked down. Do i give him credit for doing what i expected him to do? Yea, sure. A little bit.

Roy Jones is very shot. Roy Jones is not a smart fighter like Hopkins, he is a fighter who relies on physical gifts.

I believe that both Roy and Hopkins would beat Calzaghe, prime for prime. But i still give Joe some credit for beating them now.

Nope. Not for the way he performed. I was disgusted. I also didn't expect Roy to have done half as well in the first place.

The showboating between the both of them was fair enough play in the first half, as the fight was competitive and it made for very entertaining stuff. But when Roy was basically a corpse offering little to no resistance in the second half, bleeding profusely, Joe's antics were just uncalled for, sadistic really. I'd loved to have seen a matchup between the two prime for prime. It would've been just as one sided the other way around.

    very good post
back in 2002-3 when we had a lot of eatern euro DM fans and a lot of american jones fans and us hopkins fans, I used to try to impress the same thing on people
that jones would not be near the fighter he was as soon as his physical assets started to go away
    he lacks adaptability
    calzhage does deserve credit for
a)coming to the states twice in one year to fight
    b) not looking near his age in either fight

This age old argument can never win, howabout this: RJJ shouldn't get any credit for his career because he didn't fight Chris Eubank in his prime so therefore by default he can't be recognized as a great fighter.

You can apply this to any fighter.

So stop with the dreaming and the lame arguments and wake-up to reality.

Joe deserves credit for picking fights he has little chance of loosing, and making people still want to fork over the money to watch them. He picks old, slowed-down versions of the past icons, and uses his high-energy style to make them look foolish.

Problem is everyone knows that Jones of years past would have had that edge on speed and the rolls would have been reveresed.

after abit it got disrespectful, calzaghe did well against a washed up roy jones and i give him credit for that, but jones should have never been in the ring, saying that he looked a shadow of his former self is an understatement.

I'm not sure. It would have been probably more competitive but to say for sure is impossible. I am a huge RJJ fan since early in his career but if you ask me RJJ/ Hopkins/ Toney, you can make the same arguement about their careers. I think it has mostly to do with people mad that our American Icons keep getting beat up in amazing fashion. Joe deserves credit, why is everyone blaming Joe for his career its NOT like any of our guys have been harrassing Joe and chasing him down for a fight. I could make the arguement that our champs never wanted to take the risk of being beaten by an unknown fighter out of the U.K. hence the reason Joe never got a chance too.

All in all, Joe beat RJJ it doesn't matter when, where, why, or how, he did it now stop the whining and lets look forward to the future.
