:think I may be looking at this differently than most, but I think that Dawson's speed of punch delivery causes Joe all kinds of trouble. Joe does not have the same kd/ko punch that he had back in his younger days, I think that we can agree on that; basically he relies on speed, footwork and workrate to get him through. So, bearing that in mind, is there a scenario were Dawson's crisp, though not always accurate, punches cause Calzaghe trouble; in other words it takes away what I think is Joe's second bigest asset, which is his own punch speed. As mentioned Calzaghe has immense workrate (his main asset IMO), but if he is constantly being beat to the punch will that workrate drop (ie: will the cautious approach come into it), and is there a chance that Dawson could pull out the UD. I can't see Dawson getting the KO, but I think speed of punch is the key that unlocks the door for Dawson. Opinions?
I think Dawson is all wrong for Calzaghe.. Not only does Dawson have speed, he throws good combinations and is "young." If anyone has the best chance at beating Calzaghe right now, I think it's Dawson..
He did against Tarver, but I see your point: Tarver is not Calzaghe. But is there not a point were maybe Dawson's early round speed has an affect on Calzaghe's workrate, and enables Dawson to box his way for large parts and get the decision? Or am I living in la la land?
u live in lalaaland dawson can not handle the pressure and he might have a good punch but joe has a granit gin and dawson does not and dawson fight's in spurt's joe does not u guys all of the sudden make this guy a monster dawson is as good as kessler and we know what happend there!!!!
Even with Tarver he was down to one or two flashy combos per round after the middle rounds. His speed and combinations seem a little forced to me and he has trouble keeping them up when he starts getting fatigued.
(1) It's great here; no racial discrimination; no need for double a's on the second la though (2) Has been stuck on his arse in his last two fights; he did have a granite chin in his early days; it is not the same now. (3) Calzaghe-Kessler was close enough; Dawson is bigger and faster than Kessler. Could things be different this time?:think
Mundine is faster than Dawson, so if your theory is right Mundine should beat Calzaghe. Calzaghe will not hold back or be cautious (like Pavlik vs Hopkins) just because Dawson may be faster. He will just shorten the distance and make the entire fight happen on close to medium range where he will be far far more effective than Dawson. It could really be a clinic.
No. It is likely that JC would not lose a round. Fools have a fondness for doubting Calzaghe, but the man cannot lose to the likes of Dawson.
But Dawson is, at the moment, currently perched on the edge of the P-4-P top ten by most. Is boxing in that bad a state at the current time that this potential fight is reduced to a nothing-match?
This has nothing to do with the state of boxing. If noone could beat Mayweather at 147, does that mean that boxing was in a bad state? No, it just means that Mayweather was and Calzaghe is really good.
