Does Canelo going for more belts almost go against the spirit of boxing?

It's hard for me to explain so I'm not even sure that the subject title is the right one for what I'm trying to say.

But there's something about Canelo looking to 'collect' belts that doesn't sit well with me.

He won the WBA and WBC belts against Smith, defended them once and then won the WBO and IBF belts in his next two fights... now he's going for a belt in another weight division.

I understand he is looking for a new challenge but I would prefer to see a fighter stick around to defend the titles.
To immediately move on and fight for a new belt almost makes it looks as though Canelo views belts as collector's items for his legacy rather than something he truly values and wants to hold onto.

Yeah, I really enjoy boxing especially when a champion settles for beating hopeless contenders after hopeless contenders year after year, more so than said fighter seeking challenges even if it means fighting in other weight classes.

It s not like super middleweight has a wide range of leading contenders is it?
Outside of Benavidez there isnt one compelling fight left there.

I always look for a fighter to fight the best possible opposition. I almost never take belts or defenses into account when I consider what matchups are good. If you ask me what two belts Smith held when Canelo beat him then I haven't got a clue. Bivol is by far the best available opposition for Canelo 175 and under. You could argue Beterbiev but either one of these guys is worth more than 10 title defenses against mediocre 168 "talent".

Did I say year after year?

    No, I did not.

I can understand a fighter looking for a new challenge if there is no one left in his division but if Benavidez is there then I'd prefer to see Canelo fight him first before moving on.

Agreed but that fight will always be there.
If he was fightinng Lenin Castillo at LHW I can see the problem but he s taking on the second best light heavy,it s a good fight.

It's really tough for Canelo because every time he wins the guy he fought instantly becomes an overrated bum

Will the Benavidez fight always be there if Canelo stays at light-heavyweight if he beats Bivol?

If he beats Bivol, vacates the title and defends the four super-middleweight belts against Benavidez, it might look like he only fought Bivol to 'collect' another belt.

    Yes.weather at 168 or 175.
I dont rate the belts anyway but he’s mentioned he wants to become the champ at light heavy aswell(i mean real champ not alphabet belt champ).

Isn't the best fighting the best the true "spirit of boxing"?

So far Canelo is one of the few who is constantly doing that.

Canelo is a cherrypicking, weight jumping, match fixing fraud. If you can't work that out then you're a naive, oblivious observer of the "sport" (boxing is less sport, more circus show, especially when it come to Canelo) End of story.

But his fans basically say that before the fight.

I can’t stand Clenelo and everyone knows it but I don’t have a problem with fighters going for trinkets
