Seriously, after 11 1/2 rounds of doing absolutely nothing? Martinez dominated literally every one of the first 34 1/2 minutes of this contest, with Chavez following him around looking clueless and confused. Chavez lands a desparation punch in the 12th to make it somewhat interesting, and even then he couldn't close the show as a wounded guy he outweighed by (in all likelihood) 15 pounds still managed to bang with him without really clinching. Is the ESB community really interested in seeing this fight again? Does that minute of excitement justify HBO IMMEDIATELY pushing a rematch? Thoughts.
Martinez wants it Chavez JR wants, most likely 19K fans who witnessed it live want it, if the money is there why not? Who is gonna wanna face Martinez right now? mayweather talking about no boxing interest for him, Ward probably declining @ 160 there ain't much no one wants to face Martinez.
Utter schoolage and a miracle knowdown that I think was initiated via (accidental) headbutt, he doesn't DESERVE a rematch because he didn't work for Martinez' belt in the 1st place, but he takes the short money and offer Sexy $20M I'm sure Sergio will give him one.
Possibly not, but the 12th round was ****ing epic. I converted 5 people to boxing tonight, easily. We were all standing and cheering for Martinez in the 12th to hold on. It was ****ing great.
hell no...**** a rematch....hbo wit that bull****,...by da way it looks like pryor in ya avatar had something taken out his glove..lol..remember panama lewis was his trainer and u know the luis resto story..
I want Martinez to fight GGG, but there is a strong chance for a rematch. $$$$$. Martinez will make up to $5 Million in a rematch. He'll make 1/5 of that against GGG or anyone else from 160-168.
I don't think he deserves a rematch. He got his ass kicked for 12 1/2 rounds. All Martinez will do in a rematch is take a few rounds off to conserve his energy (since he nearly won a shut out taking a few rounds off won't hurt him) and he won't allow himself to get in trouble like that again.
The post fight interview was one of the most disrespectful I've seen in memory. Sergio dominated him from pillar to post for 11 1/2 rounds. No talk about that. He's gets knocked down, gets back up and trades like a man. The only thing brought up is Chavez was so close, which he wasn't. Chavez showed he has a chin (which wasn't in question). Sergio showed his mettle by going in on a guy 3 divisions higher.
If Golovkin wasn't around, I wouldn't mind a rematch even if there isn't a real need for it. But GGG is, so I do. I couldn't blame Serg for cashing out since he earned his status the hard way and his career is winding down, but I hope we get to see Martinez-Golovkin instead.
It would have been epic if he got the KO so it fell just short of epic in my book. I just don't think it would sell as well the second time around. Not many people would think Chavez stood a better chance in a rematch based on a few seconds of the final round.
