no. he threw a prayer in the 12th and happened to get lucky. Martinez was stunned and any B level fighter would have ended it then. If there is one, chavez will take a worse beating.
are you a fool? he kicked the snot outta jr, who. although he has nearly 50 fights is a rank and file amateur who fights at 185+, and has a low skill level. nearly 50 fights and no experience. definitely following in daddies footsteps..:rofl
I think the rematch is risky for Martinez especially if it's true his hand is broken and he dislocated his knee. Sergio did nothing wrong in the 12th round but as soon as Chavez turned it up he was almost out of there. Chavez may not have the natural boxing skills his father had but the confidence from the 12th could carry over.
agreed doesnt deserve it. but if the money is right im sure sergio would take it if he cant get a floyd or cotto or someone like that. i think sergio would win a rematch easier as next time he wont trade and will be much more cautious. he traded too much against a bigger man in chavez which was a mistake
Dominated for 11 rounds and soon as you knock him down in the 12th he still goes to toe with you, chavez should fight macklin.
YES. Knowing that you can hurt another fighter (in Chavez mind) and that a fighter can hurt you (in Martinez mind) changes the equation SIGNIFICANTLY.
Please no rematch. If Martinez never got sloppy in RD12 this was a 120-108 easily. Chavez doesn't deserve it.
Rematch is deserved #1) Money (no chance Martinez make a 7 figure pay day with anyone else right now) #2) after 11 rounds of schooling Chavez is still fresh enough to start fighting. To the average boxing fan this means if Chavez starts to fight much earlier he can KO Martinez. Lesson learned, let's see if he does it. HUGE marketing campaign HBO will sell to the public.
Yes. He learn a lot from this fight and these are the type of fights that in a weird way could help motivate fighters like himself and have better confidence in future fights. Chavez now knows what it takes to be part of the elite, the dangerous part if he gets beaten again in the same fashion or even worse then that could be the end. Chavez and his team should choose carefully what they want to do for his future and if they want that rematch quickly. By the way Martinez is the man, broken left hand in the fourth round, getting hurt in the last round and never show any signs of giving up. That is truly amazing:good
No, HBO's post fight commentary was a complete flip flop from the entire fight......Chavez lands some meaningful shots finally in the 12th and now he deserves a rematch.....HBO sees $$$$$......
After such a one sided fight, why in the world would Chavez fans want a rematch. Well, in a year, Sergio will be almost 40. I guess that's probably reason enough. Sergio still beats him.
It's not like Chavez didn't want to fight earlier. Like Roach said, Martinez was just too fast for him and his ring generalship was awesome. Jr didn't get the proper opportunity to fire his big shots until it was too late.
