Does Chavez Jr actually DESERVE a rematch?

After 11 rounds of schooling Chavez was not fresh enough to start fighting; he was deperate enough to try again. He had already throughout the fight, tried to get in close, but Martinez kept his wits about him. Rematch will happen because of reason #1) . And if Chavez starts to fight much earlier he's going to get KTFO by the faster counter-puncher

 

Hell no both should move on to other fights.

 

Martinez regularly was getting 7 figures prior to Chavez. Obviously the Chavez fight would be worth loads more than anything he could get but you don't need to exaggerate what he would otherwise be getting.

 

I don't think I could stomach just a 25 second clip over, and over, and over in the fight build up of a rematch of "Chavez being so close" when in reality us fans know what really happened, and it was a schollage of the highest degree.

 

For losing eleven rounds clearly? No.

And for the people suggesting Jr. should have started throwing early (or should throw early if there is a rematch) are forgetting about Jr's terrible conditioning. If he started letting his hands go early he'd be swinging and missing and would have complained about sore legs in between rounds. He would have gotten KO'd if he was busier.

 

No. I was shocked when it was immediately brought up after the fight.

That being said, money dictates everything, so it will likely happen.

One thing about it is though, the second fight may look a bit different. I figured Chavez would be at least a bit dejected after the fight, but it was quite the opposite, he looked like he had won the fight, and he didn't seem at all frustrated. The kid has surprised me with his mental toughness, and for a spoiled kid, he sure doesn't seem like one, he never quits and didn't make any excuses for losing the fight, at least that I saw.

I believe he now knows he "can" win, and a second fight might be a lot more action packed, but I would hesitate to buy it again, but if they gave us a better undercard, I probably would.

 

This remark is way off.

" IF he had let his hands go" has become a cliche and is in practically all cases, laughable.

Every boxer usually lets their hands go to the max in every fight. Sometimes, the opponent limits that max by smart boxing and footwork.

And then some fans pipe up with : "He shoulda let his hands go"


Junior let his hands go... as much as Sergio allowed him to.

Skilled boxer schools an inferior but persistent one for 95% of the match, but gets hurts once or twice, very briefly.

 

No one wants to see Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 but its happening. If sergio cant get a big money fight at 154 i see him taking a rematch.

 

I think a rematch ends like Martinez-Williams 2. Dont think Chavez will be the same again.

Jr is a very young fighter - still improving every fight. Rematch could be very exciting.
