Anyone who is gunna blast Ward if he doesn't give Kovalev the rematch should be prepared to blast Chocolatito if he fights Rungvisai instead of Caudras. I had the Caudras fight a draw similar to the Ward/Kovalev, both were really close fights in which I don't believe champion deserved to lose there belts but the challengers deserved rematches too. After complaining about money for the past few months Chocolatito seems to be heading to a fight with an opponent who is gunna make him less money than Caudras. That tells me he doesn't fancy the Caudras fight and would only take really big money for it as it's a very risky fight in his eyes. Thoughts?
Roman Gonzalez has won titles at 105, 108, 112 and 115 pounds. Those guys are very small men. Nobody really cares. Strawweights, and Flyweights don't receive very much credit or criticism for what they do. Because again, nobody cares about these tiny guys.
A multipass even. There's a big difference here in that a) he didn't sign for a rematch. b) the outcome wasn't as controversial as the Kovalev vs Ward. Just to be clear, I want to see the rematch, but can understand if he fights another guy first.
I agree with this. Him not having a rematch clause is the most important point in the short term. He's also not talking about retiring in order to not take the rematch. Gonzalez has two rematches on the horizon; Cuadras and Gallo Estrada. I'm hopeful both will happen but Cuadras is behind Estrada and Inoue on most people's checklist.
chocs trainer did just pass away, so i wanna feel for the guy, but if your going to criticise him for not rematching cuedras you need to remember he allready owes estrada a rematch aswell
That's the fight I would much rather see. The main reason there hasn't been more of a clamor for this, is Estrada's injury and inactivity. Two top 10 P4P fighters at their peak.
have not followed the whole thing to closely but last i can remember is choco demanding ALOT of cash for the fight (i mean fair enough the guy is p4p #1 so i think he deserves the payday especially against a big opponent in estrada) but the money just simply is not there because he has yet to become a superstar and put asses in seats. that and i dont think estrada has made the move to super fly
He said not enough money on Cuadras fight, sounds like something Ward would say. He gets no pass from me.
I think he was asking for $2m last time. Even given his status, that's far too much. You can only command that sort of money if you can headline a relatively successful show. Estrada hasn't moved up yet - but if Chocolatito stays there, he will. He seems determined to get this rematch and I think he'll follow Gonzalez wherever he goes. He genuinely believes he's better.
Given that Rungsuvai is a very good fighter, a former titleholder, a legit Top 5-6 guy at the weight, and was coming on strong against Cuadras when they fought. If Gonzalez elects to face him, rather than take an easier opponent, then I'd say that warrants a pass and then some.
You don't think Caudras deserves the rematch? Well the WBC even thinks he does, granted they are crooked and he is a Mexican. I think the only reason why this fight weren't as controversial is coz Caudras ain't a name in a p4p name in boxing. I just think if your gunna cry about money then fight for less money doesn't that invalidate your money point? Btw I have nothing against Chocolatito I just think people have to be more consistent.
