I don't think there is any great hype about how fantastic or compete a fighter Cleverly is.

The posts on this thread confirms that..

I think with some fine tuning he could go on to have a really good career.

Starting by getting rid of that mentalist in the corner..... he'd be better with one of those blokes that Eurobums bring over to just flap the towel in his face to cool him down.

Or better still, just let Dean Powell do the talking.

A couple of iffy performances haven't helped, the first caused by a late change in opponent and the second by his focus being wavered with allsorts going on and a ridiculous stoppage as soon as he looked like clicking into gear.

He needs to fight more often, despite having a belt around his waist he's not all that experienced against varied opposition.

He's got a really good engine and attitude/will to win, reasonable/goodish technique and probably a decent chin, but his footwork and defence are abysmal, not helped by a lack of a calm head in the corner between rounds.

Against the very top names he'll be embarrassed as things stand, but there's definitely plenty of raw materials to work with to improve and become capable of competing at the genuine world level.

It's not so long back he was considered a middling at best domestic prospect that was more likely to knock a few heads together before settling down into a ''real'' job. How far he's come is a testament to him, in fairness.

I think he is underated personally, he has beaten everyone he faced convicingly enough apart from Mohammedi. Hes not the best in the division, but hes in the front of the group behind

Some people on here seem to knock any boxer that's up and coming and gets a bit of hype.

Nathan Cleverly is no way overrated.

He has the speed of a welterweight, and an iron chin. Clev is by far and away the best in the division and has already proven to be a top ten British ATG.

So, like I say - definately not overrated by anyone.

Hes improving slowly but the fact of the matter is ****** needs to find him a trainer who can help him, I mean his dad isnt going to get him far and lets face it hes not going back to Calzaghe.

I can see the potential in this kid but he needs to have the right training / sparring because hes not going to improve like this

Just reading this thread back. I was surprised Cleverly decided what turned out to be calculated risk that payed off, and tried to pressure Bellew, as appose to trying to box around him and use his speed, however perhaps that made the fight closer that it needed to be, and made Cleverly look lesser than stellar despite winning?

I still dont rate Cleverly very highly though, even before the fight the same criticisms I had of him resurfaced. Good fighter, but very flawed to imo.

yes he is talented but his fight against bellew and one other bloke were not clear by any means. his fitness and workrate are great but his defence average, offence worse and technique even worse.
