Does Cotto hit harder than Margarito, Williams, or Clottey?

I have to agree, most people fail to miss how little Margarito was actually making contact. Margarito barely laid gloves on Cotto in the grand scheme of things, I was shocked out how busted up he got off what little damage he took.

There was a few uppercuts that landed pretty cleanly that ****ed Cotto's **** up. His nose was busted in the 2nd round from an uppercut.

Berto really loads up and swings for the fences on the majority of his punches similar to Cotto. Margarito doesn't load up on on every one of his thousand punches or he would gas out. When he swings for the rafters he usually misses badly due to his poor handspeed so I don't think he does it very often against quick/defensive fighters. Margo prefers to mix his punches up from close range with various speed and power probing for an opening usually. He has very heavy hands sort of like Vitali Klitschko so can do quite a lot of damage to you with little short inside shorts to the body and head over the course of the fight. Once you slow down that is when he will start loading up looping punches to try and take you out.

However, if he faced someone like Mayorga that likes to stand and go toe to toe he would probably just load up from the 1st and go for the homerun in a quick brawl like he normally does when opponents try and pressure him. Williams has a really good chin though because Tony hit him with some wild haymaker level bombs that would have laid out most regular sized welterweights.

Yes he does.....his record speaks for itself IMO. Got a higher KO percentage than all those guys and against better competition. Let's be real here....Cotto/Margarito came down to who could take more punishment, and I'm hard pressed to think of anyone in boxing right now thats tougher than Antonia Margarito. We all knew Cotto's chin wasn't granite....not glass either but certaintly not cast iron like AM's. Funny how Gomez said Cotto didn't hit that hard when the guy got knocked down by a Cotto jab. After the beating Gomez took, do any of y'all think that maybe Gomez was just trying to save a little face by saying Cotto doesn't hit that hard? :-(

True, although the amount of them in total is what I found so telling. Very few it seemed.

Cotto is heavy handed but definitely not proven to blitz welters lilke margarito and wiliams have in the past. I would have cotto on par with williams as PW is not really one punch ko artist despite icing chinny fighters like quintana and tuneups like kolle. Don't forget that Cotto also koed quintana with a single body shot. As far as clottey stunning margo when the **** did that ever happen?! Haha. Clottey has enough pop to keep you honest, but can not be considered a puncher. Margo def has the most power of the 4 fighters, but is a bit wide with his punches so he doesn't always connect clean with movers.

Margarito is very heavy handed as many of his opponents have testified. Cotto still hits hard but his power has diminished slightly at welter while margo is still a big man for that weight. I can guarantee you that oktay urkal would not make it near the finish line against margo and it wouldn't be because of workrate.

thats pretty much why I think Clottey hits harder, He forced Margarito off him a few times with his power and got alot more respect than cotto got

I would say he hits harder than Clottey but possibly not harder than Paul Williams. Still we need to see if Williams will be able to carry that power against someone like Clottey or even Margarito in a rematch.

I dont understand why the hell so many are high on clotteys power. he has VERY average power at best. can you imagine a former lightweight with a shaky chin going the distance with cotto at welterweight?

It's funny though how Cotto's power is being constantly questioned after his fight with Margarito, no one denied the man can hit hard when he needs to before that fight. It's just Margarito's insane ability to take a punch that would make anyone look feather fisted, Clottey hit him, Williams hit him and Cintron as well, none came even close to dropping him or SERIOUSLY hurting him.

Cotto can hit hard, don't judge his power based on the Margarito fight. Margarito just has an INSANE ability to take a punch, the man can take it and doesn't even give a damn. Cotto landed one punch like in the 6th or 4th that would have KNOCKED anyone OUT COLD, the punch just literally twisted Margarito's face and he didn't even blink.
