Does anyone think Cotto stands a better chance against Margo in rematch? I truly doubt it and I was going for Cotto first time around. Here is why I think he will fail; 1) He needs a solid inside short man style where his smaller reach can find the target quicker. I noticed in first fight he got the better of most inside exchanges but would then back off without any reason for it to fight at range which imo gave the taller fighter the advantage and also let him recover from good shots.2) Many people and the judges had Cotto winning for the first seven or so rounds. I can see why they thought that and I agree that he was "scoring" nicely but in all truth I saw the beginning of the end by round 2.. Margo's body attack and muscling of an opponent on the backfoot set up the remainder of the fight. 3) Cotto is intimidated by Margo's presence. This was very obvious at the weigh in and definately in the ring. Cotto will have to overcome this emotion of his. 4) He needs a good trainer. No more 24/7's showing him train himself. I believe Cotto has what it takes to win in ring smarts and natural talent but I hope he can overcome these faults when facing Margo again.
i think he dioes have a chance but he has to rethink his entire gameplan! He done well when he kept his boxing brain on, he is smarter than Margo after all, but because of tonys pressure and relentless style he was able to get Cotto to fight him in close thats a mistake. Even is Cotto keeps concentration for 12 rounds of back foot boxing, I dont think it a guarentee, because Margo can walk through anybodys punches it seems...
He can outbox him. But he will definitely not KO him. For the rematch, I expect Cotto once again to be fighting on the backfoot. However, to conserve energy, I expect him to clinch more.
I would still heavily favor Margarito. Too much size, and the fact that Margarito can hurt him, and he can not hurt him, is not a rocket science to figure out what will be the most possible outcome.
I think if Cotto stood his ground his shorter more accurate punches and his speed will make this different this time around. Like I said, he never stood his ground in first fight. If he landed anything at all he would take off again. This was not really suiting him as he could put no real power behind those shots. He did not use his jab often enough and when he did it hurt Marg but then Cotto would split again. I just don't see Marg like others do in that he can't get hurt. From what I've seen a jab not only slows him down but hurts him too as he walks right into them.
Yes, of course he does. However, he would have to do much more cardio work in his training regime, because he was ****ed after 7 rounds. He needs to use the jab more, and throw body punches - the guaranteed way to slow anyone down.
Other than something outlandish like taking the fight to Marg. from the bell & throwing the whole fuc#en kitchen sink at him hoping to take him out in the 1st 3 rounds--------I can only see a repeat of their 1st encounter...:smoke :smoke
Cotto cannot land his left hook to the body because Margarito throws too many right hand punches and uppercuts that get in the way. The only way Cotto can win this fight is by improving his stamina and at the same time not tire while outboxing the Tornado! I think Margo takes it again.
Margarito throwing right uppercuts, straight rights, and right hooks make it hard for Cotto to land the left hook to the body.
