OK Guys , Strange question , some may even think a stupid question ... But let me elaborate , We all know that boxing is now more a business than a Sport . Love it or Hate it we gotta deal with it . Do you honestly believe that , fights we wanna see ..dare i say Pac/May ,Kovalev/Stevenson, Triple G /Anyone ..etc dont happen because one fighter is scared ?? or are we in agreement that fights dont happen due to the 'protect the bank account' mentality of the backroom staff . I find it a little disconcerting to actually apportion fear to the decision making . Fighters are brave enough to lace em up and climb through the ropes against another ... how can fear be a parameter ?? Just playing devils advocate and throwing this out there !!! Have a great one brothers
It's like this, Let's say your name is John and you're a dominant champion for a few years. I'm your manager, and I come tell you that you have two choices John, either fight this guy who is a huge threat and if you lose you have no way of paying for anything and your economic life is over. Or option B, we can go a different route, fight an easier opponent and keep winning. I can convince you easily in time that its smarter to go with option B and play it safe and let the other fighters weed themselves out. Now this formula doesn't work for many fighters as they need to prove themselves to make $, however we have seen throughout boxing history that this business model is exercised. Examples are Mayweather V Pac, Tyson V Lewis, Bowe V Lewis, etc. (Damn man everybody was afraid of Lewis circa 1996)
boxers are human too so of course some boxers get scared.I'll use michael spinks as an example when he fought mike Tyson.others simply avoid other fighters entirely like duckweather jr avoiding pacquiao.alot of boxers like to hide behind that makes no financial sense excuse.somtimes its true most of the time its total bullsh!t.:deal
your first example is wrong.duckweather jr vs Pacquiao is the biggest money fight in history.who's duckweather jr going to fight that's going to make more money???
No its very accurate. To answer your question, I am 100% sure Mayweathers team was like " Look Floyd, you make $60 million a fight against guys to the level of Maidana and you can fight guys like this for the next 7 years and be rich forecer. Or you can risk it all and fight Manny which will make $100 up close but its a risk of taking damage or the judges might **** us over if the fight is within 3 rounds. Its better we just fight and make $60 million for the next 7 years." Of course Im referring to Mayweathers team in 2009, btw I dont think Pacs mentality was too different in 2009, I think both guys wanted to avoid facing eachother to make as much $ as possible, but it worked better for Floyd and now he doesnt want to face Manny. Think about this logically not emotionally, Mayweather won every single round against Alvarez and 1 corrupt judge had it a draw. If the fight is even within 2-3 rounds its a risk for Floyd. We all know he has to win by decision since he cant KO anyone anymore. Too much risk and this is why so many refer to May has a *****. Im not a Pac fan btw
quillan vacating his world title and a 1mil payday is some obvious cowardice. FMJ did offer a fight to pac, obviously the terms weren't acceptable to Pac, but fighting clottey for around 15% of what he would of got against Floyd doesn't make much sense either. FMJ has several hundred million in his account, theres not a financial need for him to fight, (other than greed) think he's more concerned about getting to 50-0
again you are wrong she does not make 60 million for 1 fight.your point about the judges canelo is an extremely popular Mexican he is seen as the future of boxing.Pacquiao dominated bradley in vegas and still got robbed and bradley was a nobody compared to pac.if anything duckweather jr is american the judges will favor him.
Yes its possible for boxers to be scared. Like others have mentioned look at some of the Tyson fights there were some scared dudes in there. I don't think Floyd is scared of Manny in the same way. I think he wants to remain undefeated and thats why the fight hasn't happened. Its not about money as Manny has lost but is still making millions, its about the 0. I'm not sure why a professional boxer would be scared because in sparring especially when you start out you spar with all weights. I weigh 75kg but I've been in with guys weighing 90kg +. To be fair they don't go hard but your still in there, even a jab feels like its going to take your head off. There are some guys who can bang out there and even in sparring you can feel nervous/scared.
she does not have several hundred million in a account.promoter manager trainer and cutman all take a piece and you cant forget about taxes.the way he spends and gamble's away his money he will need more more and he knows it.plenty of athletes make millions and yet they still end up broke.
Watch Audley Harrison's fights against Haye, Wilder and Price and you'll know it does. He probably throws less than 10 punches in the 5 combined rounds. Was an utter disgrace.
Excellent points raised ... Its the OLD BULL and YOUNG BUll Senario Why RUN down the hill and catch 1 Cow ..when you can WALK down and catch em all
