Does Cowardice really exist in Boxing ??

With a case like the one with Mayweather w/ Pac it's more the fear of humiliation.
I don't believe these guys fear pain much after all the work to get up where they are, it's more a mental thing.

 

I think fighters (most) earn their way to the top the hard way or take an opportunity when it presents itself. Sometimes you have to take that risk to get your name out there. A lot of fighters stop taking risks once they get to the top because when they lose, they also lose fans and future profit. IMO, no PPV star should be taking on soft touches.

It's sucks for the fans but makes business sense for the fighter and their team. Pacquiao and Mayweather occasionally take on a dangerous or risky opponent but there's enough evidence to support that they are milking their PPVs before cashing out on each other.

 

I somewhat agree, I don't think they fear getting beat up or losing. I think it's the fear of the aftermath of losing. If boxing was as lucrative in the 60s as it is today, nothing would be any different. Mayweather is a prime example. His offers seem unfair to Pacquiao because he's at a high risk of losing (stylistically) so he wants to cash out and fight him "when the time is right". Imagine if Floyd fought Pacquiao in 2010 and lost; he wouldn't have made as much money fighting Ortiz and Cotto afterwards. People don't like Floyd, so once he loses that's it. The aura of invincibility is gone and nobody gives a **** about him. I bet they'd call him a bum too.

Danny Garcia is a good example now. He risked his career fighting Matthysse because if he lost people would just call him a bum. Sad but true. Now he's taking on relatively soft touches until he can land another big money making fight. Danny isn't afraid, he's maximizing his income.

Pacquiao vs Algieri is a good example too. Pacquiao is planning to take a different direction in his career, so to feel out the weight he takes a soft touch in Algieri.

Another good example is Cotto vs Martinez. Cotto saw an opportunity to make history in a weak opponent, he took it. Can't blame him.

It's ALL business with these guys. They've been taking punches to the face their entire lives, they are not afraid of getting beat up.

It does. I understand that it's not easy for anyone to step into that ring and fight, but if you're a high level fighter and you turn down a fight against another high level fighter for a substantial amount of money, people will see that as cowardice. As a fighter, your job is to fight the best and beat the best. There's higher risk involved, but a higher amount of glory as well.

I can understand a low level boxer wanting to avoid a tough challenge as he is working his way up, but what Pacquiao and Mayweather are doing is d@mn near disgusting. JUST FIGHT!

 

Pacquiao is option B, why he's not fighting Pac ? According to Floyd, Floyd sr. and *****s the one dimensional, overrated midget is an easy money fight for Floyd. :huh

 

They want more money than Pac. He makes 90% against everyone else, Cotto got around 20%. He's not giving up 60/40 to Pacquiao. It's all money.

 

Pacroid in 2009 AND 2012! Ducked the biggest fight of the decade. He still doesn't have the ***** to ACTUALLY make the fight. All talk.

 

A few undefeated fighters tend to be scarred of a L of His record fighters like Roy Jones tended to duck a few fighters because they where treads, but when His perfect record end, He somehow wants to fights everyone.

I'm sorry that the trolls have tried to destroy this interesting post. I'm going to still give my 2c worth though.
Having experienced getting in a ring, to fight many times, I know that cowards would never enter the ring at all They become trolls on boxing forums. BUT
I wholeheartedly believe some boxers are AFRAID of losing. I know some will say here he goes again but I don't care. One prime example of this is Floyd Mayweather jr. Floyd was blessed with incredible God Given boxing talents & should be now regarded among the greats like Ali, Robinson etc.
But he never will be because he is AFRAID !! of being beaten
If he's gone ahead & fought the dangerous opponents like Paquaio, Margarito Williams etc he may well have beaten them all with the talent he possesses. Even if he lost one or two he would still be regarded in far higher esteem than he is today. Plus the opponents he does choose to fight have to agree to ludicrous demands & stipulations. Such as only fighting in Vegas his hometown , dictating what gloves his opponent wears, complaining about & insisting on his choice of referee who, as was proven in his last fight, would be extremely biased in his favour
To sum all this up Floyd is not a physical coward he is a mental one He could not take LOSING!!!! I truly believe if & when he loses he will self implode. Its really a shame because all he's done is destroy his own legacy.
Now I'll sit & wait for the avalanche of attacks from Floyd's fans

 

of course it does. people idolize fighters like super men because they themselves are afraid of getting their ass whooped, so these guys who fight for a living are the bravest men on earth to them. just like someone who has fear of heights thinks a steel worker walking on a 6" beam 500' in the air is a brave man. neither one is especially brave for doing what they are comfortable doing.
give those guys an m16 and tell them to charge a machine gun nest and you will see how brave they actually are.
