Never Floyd was to good for him. Remember when Floyd schooled him Canelo was already experienced having been a professional fighter for 8 years and an undefeated world champion. He was 23 years old and Floyd was 36 years old.
Canelo fights at 168 now, and rehydrates back up to the 170s/180s, the Floyd that was in the ring that night was 150, it's not a fair fight weight-wise They only could have ever fought at that point in their careers while Canelo was still fighting at around light middleweight
I never got the argument that Canelo wasn't prime yet when Floyd was past prime by several years. If it's the catch weight argument then this fight would never work out as Canelo is the much bigger man.
Floyd fought a drained and green Canelo. Immediately after the fight, Floyd said that he thinks Clenelo will go to 160 next. Now why would he say that?
Canelo beats 2013 Mayweather at 154 in a rematch. Stamina and wrong strategy ruined Canelo. He still went toe to toe first six rounds with TBE.
Of course 8 more years of experience, much stronger, much heavier (2½ to 3 weightclasses up), technically improved, clenbuterol fueled. Floyd would make it the distance, and if he does then Canelo's Vegas judges would beat Floyd's Vegas judges.
Mayweather won ALMOST every single round vs Canelo. Every round. And he did it EASILY. Canelo had NO answer. Canelo could weigh 300lbs and Mayweather would still box circles around him. And Mayweather was PAST his prime.
