Does Dawson present a more difficult challenge, to Calzaghe, then Kessler did?

Warfist - for many reasons I am the most objective Calzaghe supporter out there. But guys who move forward round after round in exactly the same way are bread & butter to Calzaghe. These are the exact same types that he thrives against. Calzaghe is at his best when he's got a guy in front of him throwing punches and trying to make the fight. Johnson is a come forward fighter who does the same thing over and over (that little shoulder duck before his first punch for example) - that's not really a threat to a guy who can move his feet as well as Joe. And if Calzaghe gets tagged a couple of times, so what? He's survived against bigger punches and he'd survive anything Johnson could land. Johnson simply cannot beat Calzaghe on points - to me this is not nuthuggery but a simple, obvious truth. So the only way is to stop him. Like 45 others have tried to do and failed.

    Way more of a threat.

If you really think Johnson can beat Calzaghe, please explain in some detail HOW you think he can achieve that feat. I'm very interested to find out in what departments you think he could outwork, outbox, out-think or bully him. Thanks in advance.

Calzaghe has been on the slide for a number of years and I have him somewhere around 4-5 on my current p4p list and threatening to drop out of that all together. He doesn't dominate everyone he faces (as proved against Hopkins and Kessler ..... even Bika for a while and many others) but he gets the better of Dawson and Johnson easier than many realise for very different reasons.

you need to quote those reasons considering the limited number of solid fighters he's fought...

Sure it is but you cannot deny that he hasn't been in there with big punchers. Prime Reid hit Calzaghe with bombs. Reid was a genuine puncher at 168. Mitchell can seriously bang and did. He's been decked 4 times mostly quite heavily yet what happened? Nobody has finished him off. Why? There are many many good punchers who have hit Calzaghe but his powers of recovery are pretty much as good as you can get. I fail to see how Glencoffe Johnson of all people has what it takes where so many others have failed.

Its hard to say who has a better jab, but the thing that Dawson does that Calzaghe doesn't do is throw uppercuts ... Kessler did that to Calzaghe and it was very effective.

Calzaghe doesn't throw uppercuts ... Dawson does

And I don't know when the last time Calzaghe fought a southpaw ...

Yes he does ... I think his size, speed, agility, and defense would pose a problem for Calzaghe.

big punchers who arent world class fighters is a moot point.

the only world class fighters who decked him did it in the first round and they are fighters he should have fought years ago while frank warren was leeching off his career.

kessler hasn't got spanked by any big punchers either - but then again, he hasn't fought punchers in their prime at world level as well.

stop trying to glorify him. and in this case, thats exactly what you're doing.

ANY talented fighter can look good against b grade fighters.

3 or 4 rounds in Slappy Joe turns up the heat, and Dawson can't hang. Chad's lack of experence would be his undoing.
