I saw some of Roy Jones in Dirrell last night. Just so fast that he could toy with his opponent at times and get out of the way. Maybe AA's style was tailor made for Dirrell but that was a clinic.
He has skills....but not as fluid as a Mayweather, Dawson type fighter...I think he is a very negative fighter to watch at times....I wouldn't call him a defensive fighter, maybe just a mobile fighter...
I believe that he is exciting to watch but when the fight is so one-sided it isn't as good. There needs to be some suspense or fear of what can happen. AA was like a punching bag so it made Dirrell less exciting than if his opponent had been more evenly matched.
Dirrell is not Thomas Hearns, but who is? Tommy was exciting and could make for exciting fights and win. Dirrell lacks the power of Hearns and the skills, so he has to be careful and box and be careful. Ward vs. Dirrell would be a very nice fight.
He's not Gatti-exciting, but he's a boxer who lets his hands go. I thought his performance against Froch, with all the holding and falling wasn't great, but against AA he redeemed himself. I think he's exciting enough.
If he fights the rest of his fights like he did against Abraham then he may stick around for a while... If he returns to running matches like against Froch then I stop watching him.
did anyone even watch his fights against stevens or froch if you vote yes i'd love to know why. I love watching a masterful boxer outclass opponents but that's not what he does he just doesn't ever engage an opponent and makes plenty of technical mistakes that are hard to watch
That cut was there 3 rounds before they stopped it to look at it. LOL at twisting anything you can without including everything that happened. Like dirrell's knockdown not called when he knocked abraham flying into the ropes (those cancel eachother out). OR THAT WET ASS ABRAHAM CORNER WHICH HAD TO BE WIPED EARLIER. They knew dirrell would start moving towards the end so they wet that corner up. Then dirrell slips in that corner and AA hits him dirty. I understand that dirrell swung on him when he was complaining of a low blow had something to do with it but you got to know the rules. AA ROBBED HIMSELF and showed his true ***** character in losing. Everyone is humble when they are undefeated but when they lose then some turn ***** after wards. AA is an example and his image up to now of being a humble man was proven a sham.
Not enough choices in the poll. Saturday's fight was really entertaining to me. Dirrell is no Gatti in terms of entertainment but don't compare Dirrel-Abraham to Mayweather-Baldomir. PLease...Have you seen the Baldo fight at least?
depends on the fan...i like guys who move around (although i was thinking AA was going to take it before the start)...but some guys just like two people to stand toe-to-toe, feet in cement blocks, and swing
Dirrell put on a great performance Saturday night. He was exciting, he opened up showed good defense, blazing speed combos and he dropped a man who had never been dropped before.
His skills are fan-friendly but right now his style isn't. The Abraham fight was alright though, because Abraham's style compliments Dirrell's. Even then, the guy uses running as his primary form of defense and has zero inside game, so no, I don't think real fans can enjoy that style. He still has a lot of maturing to do though, so there's hope.
I watched the AA-Dirrell fight with a group of 7 PR friends and not one of them liked Dirrell's style. We were all unanimously rooting for Abraham, even though I was the only one that had actually seen AA fight before. The problem is not the skillz. He has very nice skillz. We were all in agreement that Dirrell has very nice combination punching and a nice arsenal of punches. We also highly praised his ability to switch hit. It's just the way he fights that sucks. I personally can't stand it. And why the hell is he always conveniently tripping and stumbling over when his opponents are rallying? Does Dirrell have any non-US fans?
