He has to get through Pacquiao Marquez Pernell Whitaker and Shane Mosley as LW title defenses(average form in his later years as LW champ) Then Oscar De La Hoya, Tito Trinidad and Floyd mayweather (1979-1980 WW version) Fernando Vargas and Winky Wright at JMW(1983 version) Kelly Pavlik and 2018 GGG (Hagler version)
Does Duran win? Vs. Pacquiao, maybe. Marquez, probably. Whitaker, probably not. Mosley, probably. De La Hoya, probably not. Trinidad, maybe. Mayweather, no. Vargas, yes. Wright, maybe but probably not. Pavlik, leaning toward yes. GGG, no.
Lightweight Beats all of them Whitaker, Marquez, Pacquiao, Mosley, i'm a big fan of Whitaker and Marquez alot more than Duran TBH. But Duran H2H at 135 is an absolute menace. Welterweight Again beats all of them for me ODLH, Trinidad, Mayweather, if Duran is at his absolute best aka Leonard 1, Palomino. Jr Middleweight Beats Vargas and loses to Wright. Middleweight Loses to both Pavlik and Golovkin.
I see it the same. I think Winky has a style and size that gives him problems. I simply don't like Duran once he is up around 154. Sure he had solid wins over Moore and Barkley but beating Winky, GGG and a 6'2 Pavlik is a tall order for the greatest lightweight of all time.
I think Pavlik gets a bit underrated nowadays people forget how highly he was rated before he lost to Hopkins. With hindsight moving up two weight classes to fight Hopkins was a bad idea, and he seemed to lose his mojo a little bit after that. But prior to that he destroyed the boogieman of the division at that time Edison Miranda in a very good performance, beat Jermain Taylor in two very good fights the first one being a FOTY candidate. And also had some solid wins prior to winning the title aswell. Pavlik had a solid thumping jab a very good straight rand and was a very accurate puncher aswell. I would think Duran would have alot of trouble with his range and height, Pavlik was a better boxer than Barkley and did the basics better than him aswell.
No Pavlik beat Taylor twice in two very good fights the 1st one being one of the best Middleweight title fights of the modern era. Pavlik only lost twice to Hopkins at Light Heavyweight and Martinez at Middleweight. He had a bad drinking problem which shortened his career, I think hes doing ok now though.
Pavlik has a great instagram page, he has settled into boxing/coaching tactics and techniques. Seems content.
