After reading all the flack about Josh Kelly I had a look at his record and he’s only had 11 fights. In that time he’s been up against quality operators in his last few , so his poor performances are to be expected after that level of experience.

I then read he was facing avenesyan which is very foolish / brave matchmaking.

Why is Eddie throwing them in so deep so quick ?? Other examples being okolie and although it’s worked out even Joshua.

Is he trying to get his cash out of them quickly ? Or does he not have proper boxing people around him to warn him ?

    Interested to hear your opinions.

Not the promoter. Management and trainer also play the part.

The alternative is that you end up with a Hatton/Calzaghe situation where they spend a whole career waiting for a breakout fight and then have five minutes in the spotlight.

Joshua clearly wasn’t moved too quickly.

Yeah, there’s a balance for sure. Warren moves fighters too slowly, Hearn perhaps quickly in some cases but maybe that perception exists because of how long Warren has his fighters facing mediocrity.

Haye broke the mould some what in moving pretty quickly. So it could be booth pushing Kelly on.

I've heard Adam Booth claim Kelly is the most talented boxer he's trained so they must think he's ready, I personally don't think he is.

In general I think hearn is pretty good at moving fighters forward at the right time. Warren on the other hand has always been poor, he's **** scared of moving them on.

Flinging the boxers in deep early can damage their careers.

I prefer the British , commonwealth and EBU route before moving up to world.

The Hearn prospects may be good , but they are not Lomachenko.

Pre Ruiz II that’s exactly what was being said. He’s developing his skills as a world champion under the spotlight with no margin for error.

I think team Kelly know they have screwed up here. But they can't get out of this one now. They tried to save face after pulling out against David the first time saying they'd have no problems facing him.

The plan will be to fight Benn if, and when, Kelly loses to Avanesyan.

Forces his own hand by hyping them up so much to use them on Ppv cards and sell them as the next best thing. Soon as You do that you can’t keep putting them in with nobodies

    Spot on.

Bar Joshua, I don't see anyone that Eddie has or has had, that could have possibly been moved too quickly.

He doesn't really nurture fighters, he's get's them when established.

I think he does struggle to deliver the really important fights though.

Frank is great at overcooking a fighter. He struggles to pull the trigger when needed.

For me Kelly needs this fight.

It's time to see if he can sink or swim. A loss doesn't end him but we need to see where he is at.

If it wasn’t for the hyperbole from sky they could genuinely build hype naturally If they really are that good. The only one in recent times where it’s felt natural was the rise of Lewis Ritson when he was on a tear. Conor benn, Josh Kelly. Buatsi they all get pushed as the “next superstar” before they even have any half decent wins. Hatton and Calzaghe definitely should’ve stepped up sooner but at least when they did step up they were ready. Don’t think Hearn does too bad the only real howler he’s had was putting brook in with golovkin

They shouldn't be. Just the mentality of boxing fans is all wrong.

After 11 fights he isnt ready for such a step and theres no need to take the risk
When a fighter is hitting 15 or 16 fights then maybe go for it
Unless its an exceptional talent which whilst Kelly is good he is not exceptional

Hearn has flogged Cheesman and Ritson in this fashion as of late and its hindered them
