I was wondering to myself what would happen if Spence beats Pac which will likely happen. While I am a big fan of Pacquiao, i give him 15-20% chance tops. However, even if Errol wins i'm not too sure he will become a superstar. He doesn't have Floyd's promoting skills, he doesn't really showboat, he doesn't have sublime skills like Floyd nor is he really a talker. He also doesn't have Pacquiao rags to riches story, he doesn't have that awkward immigrant charm, no real ethnic backing and to top it off, Pacquiao is ancient by welterweight standards. I think a win for Errol will help his profile but he is too lowkey and reserved to become a true crossover star although stranger things have happened. Thoughts?
Beating a 42 yo two years out of the ring deserves no credit or respect. Cash grab for his own benefit
It’s simply a cash grab. If he wins it’s because Pac has been inactive too long and is old. He will get little credit and less if Pac retires after.
True, Dela Hoya was shot to bits but Floyd and Manny beat him and it boosted their profile immensely but i can't help but feel Spence doesn't have the goods to become a true superstar, nothing wrong with that, but it just isn't who the man is.
No. He won't become a superstar. He will be the guy who beat the old guy who should have retired some time ago.
Nah....beating Pac who's 43 years old now won't make Spence become a superstar. On the contrary, beating Spence at age of 43 will make Pacquiao the GOAT.
I think it will help him but it would have had more impact right around when he fought Kell Brook. Spence is a little old for a torch passing fight, that's why I liked Ryan Garcia when that idea was floated. The audience he would pick up, even in defeat, would be with him for a lot of years if he's serious.
