Damn Kirk, I'm glad you stopped that back yard fighting. On the surface you don't realize how dangerous it could be.

Here's a more comprehensive one from 1999, if you are interested in the science of it:

Fighting isn't something to be undertaken casually. That's why all boxers deserve our respect. It's a tough occupation.

Ray Leonard doesn't seem to have any problems. Neither does Lennox. I saw an interview with Micky Ward recently - he seems to have retired pretty much intact despite his face-first style.

With some fighters it's hard to tell - is Tyson any more mentally deficient now than he was at 18? Is there a chance that some of the fighters perfomed badly in those neuropsychological tests simply because they are dumb? Lets face it, the more intelligent a person is, the less likely they are to get into boxing in the first place.

I'm not sure what I think about all this. It's a shame, sure. But without boxing a lot of fighters would end up in rehab/prison/an early grave. At least with boxing they get to live the high-life for a while.

    I don't know. :think

    i know :-(

you know the shitty thing is RM? is like... you know... im kinda known around my cities for that... and being 'the man' at that **** right... and im not saying that for any other reason then to give you the mindset of whats going on... so ill be at the mall, or at work... and people will come up to me eather with someone i should fight, or telling me 'ya so my cousin wants to fight you'

and to be honest, its hard for me to tell people that i only want to focus on real boxing ya know... because in their eyes im a ***** when i say that, but they dont know about the damage that can be done.. they dont know the feeling of maybe never being able to fight again, or the shock you get when a red light just flashes out of nowhere. So im not going to ruin that by fighting guy after guy who just wants to fight.... but at the same time its very uncomfortable to tell person after person that. The thing is... the people ill be fighting is 10x the fighters they are bringing to me, but every punch counts... which is something ive come to learn.

That's real. I'm sure you do have some fame Kirk. ****, even i know you if I see you in a mall...lol. What did you mean in the text I bolded?

As far as the pride goes, there is nothing wrong with letting guys know your retired and you only fight pro now. If you tell them the right way they have to respect it.

You really should go to a doctor and get checked out, just in case.

ya your right... i think i let pride get to me too much sometimes  ah.. in the bold text i just mean the fighters/boxers ill be fighting in cali are probably way better then the street bums im fighting out here...

at any rate... i respect fighters so much, and i would love to think that there is a brain damage free future for every fighter that hasnt taken too much punishment (like the ones ive mentioned) including your boy mayweather... people like to say he fights like a *****, but its his future. I would never say a bad thing about people that fight like that... i will say i wont like the way they fight but i can never blame them...

Roy Jones isn't showing any signs of punchiness ....neither is Tito ....but that one guy who retired on espn two weeks ago...the heavyweight or cruiser who got Ko'd by the young prospect he sure as hell sounded punch drunk

All that brain stuff is a lot of money... im pretty broke. I was sent to an eye specialist, who then sent me to a retina specalist, because one of the punches caused a slight... something.. to my retina... but it was something that would heal over time and has. but the whole brain thing... those scans.. they are too expensive for me. Someday though ill get one.

thats why sometimes im thinking these tests... i mean, for all we know they were testing the type of boxers that our journeyman, that take a lot of punches.

Tito has taken his fair shair of punishment.... and seems fine. Roy too.

    These guys make me happy

There might be a free clinic around you? But I understand. I had no health insurance for a long time and I just had to hope I didn't get hit by a car or something.

I've had a dozen amateur kickboxing fights but I've been sparring for about 7 years, on and off. I got the lights thing too but it may have started before I started sparring (I can't remember). For me it looks like someone spilled water on the side of my eye and the light kind of moves around and shimmers, slowly growing in size (sometimes it takes up half my vision). If I drink water the lights go away within 20 minutes so it's not too bad. My mother's a doctor and she thinks it's from some sort of migraine issues.

I know I love the sport but going pro just has too many health complications for it to be worth it, even if you do become #1 at some point.
