Does Floyd Mayweather fight to the level of his competition?

I think Floyd Mayweather will beat Pacquiao because of this. It's not because he doesn't try vs other fighters or because he doesn't have good training camps for other fighters...It's just competitive nature. If you've always fought one way but you have to fight at a certain level in order to beat someone, u go to that level subconciously.

I think Floyd has to engage in violent exchanges with Manny and win them in order to win the fight. If he fights the same fight he has vs any1 else in his career, he will lose. I forsee Pacquiao's style bringing the very best out of Mayweather. I think he has it in him to rise to the occasion.

    Thoughts?

Well I agree with your analysis but I think that favors Pacquaio not Floyd.

Floyd as far as I'm concerned has been taking it easy for years, fighting opponents who are made for him stylistically. Guys who he can basically box circles around and win easy decisions. He's not going to be able to get away with that in this fight.

Floyd is still untested. He's never been in a real, gritty fight. How he reacts will be one of the big questions in the fight.

Floyd has never been stunned in his career (in large part because he avoids getting in exchanges, but still that's impressive).

Pacquiao has been stunned quite often, and Floyd has the ability to punch hard from many angles (unlike cotto...who punched hard but was transparent)

ive seen a few things incorrect in this thread (floyd has never had a gritty fight or had to dig deep - castillo 1) Floyd has never been stunned (chop chop corley stunned him), ect.... but for the most part i agree i too think that he tends to rise or fall in contrast to his competition. Meaning, he will often do just enough to win comfortably....

Void does not have to fight, all he has to do is be standing at the end of the fight, and he knows it. Void, Sr. said he did not want Void, Jr. to fight Pac.

Pacquiao is too fast with his in and out movements for Floyd to fight his standard fight. He'll be forced to exchange imo...When Floyd wants to throw combos, he looks as good as anyone imo

do you understand that the reason hes untested in a griity fight is because hes a boxer its not to his advanteage to get in a scrappy fight

and i dnt feel pac can make him change that therfore i pick mayweather by late ko or ud

All Manny has is a punchers chance and nothing else because he will have turned up to fight.Floyd will make Manny miss and do so big time to the extent that Manny will look like a fool.Meanwhile Floyd will be pot shoting, after sometime Manny will fight Floyd's pace and get a beating of his life.Manny can fight those who wait in front of him,he's not very good with a moving and dodging target especially if the target is hitting back.
