Does Floyd winning the Ring title against Guerrero make him a 9 time champion?

Does it matter? Roy Jones had the most paper titles at one time in the whole history of the world.

 

Retained WBC, WBA (Super), IBF, IBO, NBA, WBF, IBA & The Ring Light Heavyweight titles.

 

He also beat Mosley for the wba title but didnt pay the sanctioning fee. Honestly who really cares about these alphabet belts.

 

Technically, he did not fight Mosley for the WBA title. But basically, he did beat the WBA WW champion. I think it was silly of Floyd to not pay the sanctioning fee for the WBA title at WW, but then pay for the WBA sanctioning fee at 154 for the Cotto fight. That was a very bi-polar move by Floyd.

Floyd is an 8 time titlist I think, not including the 3 Ring titles (135, 147 x2) and not including his 2 Lineal titles (130, 147). If you do include those, he's like a 13x champion in 5 weight classes.

 

Just checked shane had the wbo title not wba. Maybe the sanctioning fees for the wbo title are different than the wba. Who knows. Also which is the real wba title the one Floyd has pr the one canelo has?

Margarito stopped Cotto for the WBA title, Mosley stopped Margarito for the WBA title. There was no WBO title there.

The WBO title was trading hands between Paul Williams and Carlos Quintana. Then Williams vacated it and Cotto fought Jennings for it. Last time Margarito had the WBO title was in 2007, which Williams beat him for it.

Shane Mosley never held the WBO title at WW.

Titles don't mean anything nowadays so who cares.

For instance some people (very, very tiny fraction) don't recognize retirements as handing off the lineage in which case Floyd would have been WW lineal this whole time since '06 and that would mean Erdei was still LHW lineal and passed that on to Denis Grachev, who would be current.

Corrales was stripped of his IBF 130 title for trying to unify with Floyd if you want to get hard core into it. Agreed, who cares.

 

1 champ in each division. 8 divisions bring it back

 

i don't really mind the divisions but there needs to be 1 champ.
