After last nights "performance" by Hatton, do you think that Mayweather's ability as a trainer will take some of the flak, or do you believe Hatton was simply too pig-headed to listen to anything Floyd said?

Personally I never really understood why Mayweather Sr had such a massive rep in the first place.

Mayweather Sr. showed him the film of the right hook, told him to move his head, told him to feint, told him to keep his hands up.

It was all there for Ricky, he can't expect Floyd to get in the ring with him and control him like a marionette.

People were expecting miracles. Hatton boxed one way for his whole career and Mayweather has him for a few weeks and you REALLY expect to see a worthwhile difference?

The fruits of Roach's labour have developed year on year with Pacquiao, very gradually.

Mayweather Sr is a fantastic trainer, his son is living proof.

The fight showed Hatton wont change. No matter who his trainer was he was going to lose.

Mayweather himself admitted when he started with Ricky he wouldn't be able to change Hatton but just tweak things.
Hatton didn't even listen to those things though for this fight
It's pretty obvious they had problems behind the scenes.

Not making excuses as he would have lost anyway, only later imo.

    Yes and no.

Mayweather cannot fight the fight for Hatton, so what ever game plan he comes up with its down to his fighter to execute that game plan. Ricky would not listen his instructions. That is not Mayweather's fault.

However he did try to change his style to radically, and that can be held against him.

I don't and have never rated Floyd Mayweather Snr as a trainer. I don't blame him for Hatton losing to Pacman as Hatton would always have lost.

4 Mayweathers fought and 2 were champions Uncle Roger Mayweather "the Mexican Killer/Black Mamba" and PBF. I have always rated Uncle Roger Mayweather highly who also has Freddie Roach's number

What has Roger done that is so great?

As far as I can see he's mainly reaping the rewards of what his brother has done for his nephew.

Hatton is too stubborn to take on new things at this stage in his career. He probably thought he knew best, and didn't listen to a word Sr. had to say.

I didn't say that he'd work miracles and I've never rated Hatton, but do you not think he will take some of the flak?

You can't really blame Mayweather for Hatton not boxing to the gameplan. If Hatton had of boxed to plan and lost then maybe you could point at Mayweather a little but that just didn't happen last night.

Correct, especially when you listen to what Floyd was saying between rounds.

Floyd can improve you technically but not improve your technique. He'll tell you about range, timing, using the jab, combos and defence. He won't teach you how to do each move in a text book fashion.

Yet again, Hatton was caught lunging in with a left hand, only to be met with a devastating counter.

Hatton always did jump around leaving himself off balance and out of position. He never was one for pinning his hands to his cheeks.

I was hoping his flaws could be overcome by durability, strength and power. Unfortunately, Pac went one step further in showing what sort of physical specimen (or should I say monster) he is.
