Detractors of Mayweather will say that despite his impressive resume he picks and chooses the right opponents at the right time, and in some respects they have a point. Corrales was struggling hard to make the super-featherweight limit of 130 pounds when they fought in 2001. the same could be said for Alvarez at light middleweight in 2013. Gatti was shot, Hatton a blown up light-welterweight, and Marquez also too small. He fought Cotto too late and ducked Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito back when they were laying waste to everybody. These accusations are especially easy to make when you consider the unprecedented control Mayweather has garnered over his own career. His fans will say

    Absolutely true.

This is how people will remember Floyd if he doesn't fight Manny. The undefeated record is a gimmick/bargaining tool.

This. Its a damn shame really cuz i think he IS as good as he makes himself out to be and had he faced the best at the right times id of expected him to win anyway, HE IS THAT GOOD.

Unfortunately all his bravado aside he doesnt think hes as good as his own hype and has very cleverly cherry picked opponants who are huge names in the sport but making them come up down weights and all the other endless little demands that favour him all the time.

And because of that his "legacy" is tarnished. Even still hes had a wonderful career. In his younger years before he really had much clout on a negotiation table he was doing it all properly and was magnificent.

BUT, hes 38ish, rich as fukk, he certainly not punchdrunk, not mashed up in the face and hes had alot of great nights and owned a hell of alot of belts. Got give him respect for that.

Boxing's biggest hoax will always be remembered for being the duck from the movie Babe. Noisy and ran at the site of a threat.

To his fanboys yes. To everyone else and sensible people, it will be NOT fighting pacquiao.

The amount of hate Leonard gets for having one eye and ducking Hagler is still funny

At least he manned up while Hagler has knocked out all his title defenses (except Duran)

    Floyd (in his prime)
    Ducked manny (in his prime)
And still ducks a shot manny
    And khan

If Floyd beat Pac in 2009 or 2010, his legacy would be massively improved. More so than staying unbeaten for another 4 or 5 years without facing Pac.

I really don't think he cares about what boxing fans think about him. He just cares about making max money for the least risk. He won't fight anybody who he thinks has the remote chance of beating him. As long as he is making this sick money he will continue to do so.

If it was easy as his haters make it out to be everyone would be undefeated. He should have been much more active and the Maidana fights were a bad choice in my opinion. Aside from that he has had a great career, he has beaten the best like it or not. People hate him so much they refuse to be impartial and judge him extremely harshly every time.
He will always be remembered for not facing pac and vice versa. Floyds haters expect him to face GGG yet accept Algeri and Rios as Pacquiao opponents, just goes to show even his haters know he is great.

For me if he does not fight Pac or Khan next I'm done with him. Cotto rematch would be a disgrace.

Same way it did Marciano's...but Marciano isn't considered the greatest, and thats for a reason. Floyd will receive same treatment if he retires undefeated.
