He said he came out there to train Mickey Rourke, then Mickey let him have all his equipment when he was done boxing. I'd imagine thats when he bought the gym, but no sure.
He lives in the same building as the gym - Watch some of the 24/7's on youtube from the De La Hoya fight - It is talked about in there. I imagine the gym probably does alright...and Freddie doesn't work for peanuts either!
yes he does. Valuable? Not really. He is the most valuable asset to the gym, he gets paid a percentage of all the fighters purses he trains. The bigger the payday the more he makes. Im sure he is doing quite well.

It was Rourke's equipment, B, but not the original Wild Card location. Used to be on the second floor of a converted still photographer's studio about 10 blocks West on Santa Monica Blvd. Freddie cleared away a small area to live in.
In the first episode of 24/7, HBO showed Roach in his home which is a little away from the gym. They even showed the traffic that Roach has to put up everyday. So, no, Roach doesn't live in the gym. Maybe before. Wolverine is the one staying in the gym.
Yeah, originally Roach lived right across from the Wild Card Gym. But recently he had to to move due to people always knocking on his door for autographs.
