Does Froch have more to lose than to gain by fightng Golovkin?

a stoppage would reflect more on ggg's abilities than froch's chin. it ain't the hardest to find but the 1st groves fight shows how tough it is to crack.

 

More to gain.

If he loses it will be seen as Froch being at the end of his career and out of the ring 12-18 months.

If he wins, what happens next depends on what Golovkin does in the future.

If Golovkin turns out to be a bust (either because he is just not elite level or he is not big enough for SMW) then Froch will still gain a lot based on the fact of Golovkin's reputation pre Froch fight and Froch's desire to take him on. Calzaghe and Froch himself still get great credit from a lot of people for beating Lacy and Bute despite those two foes not doing much afterwards.

If Froch beats Golovkin and Golovkin rebounds and goes on to have a successful career at the top level, then it will add greatly to Froch's resume.

Obviously this is just looking at what people will say about this fight and Froch afterwards. Personally, it could be quite devastating for Froch. He is a proud, tough man and a loss at the end of his successful career, particularly a KO loss, would devastate him.

 

I don't think he has much to lose at this point. He has come to the end of his career and is a multiple world champion with many career defining fights. Not many fighters can boast of being in many classic fights, I can think of at least 3 right now.

But a KO loss would be damaging for Froch, as he's built his reputation of being an iron chinned warrior.

 

By far more to lose. If he beats GGG then it will be another Bute, some hype job that can KO good opposition but falls short at the top level. If he loses by KO, he is ridiculed and people will say he didn't have the iron chin that he was claimed for years. If he gets outpointed then he lost to a small middleweight coming up in weight that shouldn't have been big enough.

 

I just don't get this fight at all, Froch ended his career in the most perfect way, add to that he doesn't look interested anymore, add to that all the millions he has now earned. Why take this fight...hang up those gloves

 

No way is Froch doing a repeat of a Bute on GGG. GGG has never been KO'ed and has a very good chin. This has all the marking of a war, a FOTY. This will go down as a classic.

 

Makes me laugh somewhat that GGG can't KO Froch as he has a "granite chin" yet Froch will KO a person who has never been down in over 400 fights.

Can't see a KO either but who knows what will happen when both these guys start swinging. Out of the two granite chinned warriors, Froch clearly has more wear and tear, especially after the punishment he got from the first Groves fight. So technically, Froch is the most likely, but you never know. I wouldn't bet against Froch...

 

Froch has more to gain, the one they call Triple G has more to lose. If Froch wins, people will say what a fantastic victory it was, how nobody else was willing to fight Golovkin but Froch stepped up and beat him, etc. Whereas if Golovkin wins, people will just say Froch was out for a year, doesn't have the same desire anymore after Wembley, millions in the bank, etc.

I'm a huge fan of both fighters, and whatever the outcome, I don't want to hear any excuses from either side. If Froch wins he deserves all the credit in the world for taking on the most feared boxer in the sport today and if Golovkin wins he deserves the utmost praise for fighting (and beating) the bonafide #2 SMW in the world in his first outing at 168.

 

I agree with you, but some muppets will put it down to GGG being a hype job, you know that will happen and that is what Froch will be thinking too.

 

He has more to gain.

He really doesn't have anything to lose, reputation-wise.
Everyone, (even those of us who think he's overrated), would have to acknowledge that at his age and coming off a semi-retirement lay-off he's likely some way past his best. That would alibi him if he loses.
If he wins it's a BIG win.

 

Negative thinkers will believe he has more to lose and vicky verky.
