Is there any direction he can go in which not fighting Groves is ok? What if Froch takes a Golovkin fight or moves up and fights a guy like Stevenson would that be good enough? Is he excused having fought one of the toughest schedules the past 2-3 years? discuss

I don't think a Stevenson or Golovkin fight is "being excused", really... they're challenging fights for aging Carl. Groves can win a fight or two and the rematch could be even bigger, sort of Groves getting the UK SMW torch from Froch who would be cashing out.

if he takes a fight against someone most consider to be weaker than Groves he'll lose a lot more respect than he already has, justified or not. imo, Froch is an arrogant punk regardless but hey, he's a boxer, most are.

IMO Froch was going to stop Groves anyway- no way could Groves withstand much more of Froch's relentless attacks.

Foster saved Groves from getting ruined to the point Groves still has a chance in a rematch, whereas another few minutes of punishment he might have never been the same again.

If Froch wants to save face he has to fight Groves, but Froch is not very confident fighting Groves again.

Froch doesn't have to fight Groves, unless he wants respect back from the public.
Not many people really like Froch anymore, it's been a bad outcome for him.
On top of that, Groves made Froch look shot to pieces at times.

[Not many people like Froch anymore.

Sorry I don't agree with this. Any boxing fan and even a casual fan in reflection has to see that the early stoppage wasn't Froch's fault. He cannot and should not be blamed for the ref's mistake. I think in light of this, the publica perception to Froch has changed since the immediate aftermath of the fight. to say "not many people like him is stupid. What are you basing this on? People booing after the fight? that's a small % of the public and I bet many of those fans there that night ( Including me who booed ) understand Froch did all he could and shouldn't be blamed.

In light of all of this, should groves get a rematch, yes. does he deserve one, yes.

will Carl give him one, no, not straight away. He will cash out against another top line opponent and win lose or draw that one, a fight with groves even without a title on the line makes great business sense.

    Of course.

But how about him speaking out of both corners of his mouth ( starting right at the post fight interview) ?

How about him trashing Groves' ability ( and ending with an egg splashed all over his face) ?

Carl smiled and patronized Groves when he predicted he was going to land right hands very early.

Why should fans appreciate delusional loudmouths like Carl who can't back up their claims in the ring and need crooked refs to save them ?

Froch has traded on his warrior image for years now if he doesn't give groves a return froch will then look like he has chosen to duck groves

He clearly doesn't have to fight Groves. Did Lewis have to rematch Mercer, did Trinidad have to rematch De La Hoya? You get close and controversial fights as long as the tarnished fighter goes on to face better opposition the fans tend to forgive these failed rematches.

If Froch fights Ward, Golovkin or even moves up and faces a light heavyweight title holder then I think most fans will be OK with that. If he faces an overly easy option then he'll be rightly criticised from most quarters.

The issue maybe moot if Bute beats Pascal and enforces his mandatory rematch clause afterwards.

I'm a bit of a Froch fan and the answer is a big yes. But he's coming to the end of his career and money is probably the deciding factor for him. No other fight stands out more for the fans than Groves, unless he moves up and faces the beast of Kovalev or Stevenson. Golkovin is unlikely as he's got unfinished business in his own weight than moving up to SM.

No on has criticsed him for the refs mistake, what people do criticise him for is attempting to justify it and to act as if there's no reason whatsoever that a rematch against Groves could be justified, claiming the result proved Groves couldn't cut it at world level and intimating he's not prepared to give Groves a rematch becuase Groves was "disrepectful" and "childish". It is his attitude that has soured people to him, not the result itself.
