He already has a very strong chin and he will need it I believe. We often hear losing weight can be problematic. Does gaining weight has the opposite effect and strengthen the punch resistance? In short, is GGG knockable at SMW? Will he look like a bulldozer trying to break down Canelo or will he look like a slow fragile 40 years old guy on his very last mile ?
Can impact your punch resistance by little - being shaken or knocked out is related to the vestibular system and the brain and for that reason, slim, fat or strong is kind of the same (well, your neck muscles can help in a way and your legs if being strong to keep you from falling). It's the power of the punches that matters along with how those organs react, so we're about to see. Maybe Golovkin is less resistant now as he'll take harder punches at that weight. Maybe not, he seemed as a tough guy so far, of course the age is a factor.
Gaining weight helps a lot with your chin. Zhilei Zhang has became a totally different fighter chin-wise since gaining 30 pounds, for example. I don't think 8 pounds will matter as much as being 40, though. The big thing to worry about is GGG's body. The best bet possible is Canelo at -400 with a very small bet at +6650 for Canelo in the first six.
But against GGG Canelo will be counter punching I think. Current GGG is much better than shot Kovalev who got KOed in the 11th round.
See it that way - if gaining weight helps enduring shots to the head, then the heavyweight division would have been the one with the least KOs, while the lightest ones would've been with the highest KO ratio. @kdyehs I think Golovkin is better than Kovalev at least in terms of how hard he is to get hurt.
Certainly an heavyweight is an heavyweight and he fights bigger punchers. But if an heavyweight were to come down to a lighter weight would he be more likely to get KOed by the same punch ? I take it that your answer is no. I remain skeptical but I understand your answer.
Well, just a theoretical example: if a heavyweight fighter of let say 105 kilos becomes a cruiser of 90 and gets beaten by a heavyweight, his chances to resist are less - that's how I see it. So my answer is "yes" actually. But all of this is very relative even if we take particular fighters who went up and down in categories. In this particular case, Golovkin isn't gaining such a big weight, so I doubt there'll be a significant change in whatever aspect.
It won't make much different. GGG is damn slow now and he's gonna be knocked out in the 3rd match by Canelo anyway. GGG will announce his retirement in the ring.
Nah, if anything, not having to cut weight will help Golovkin at this point. Fighting at 8lbs higher than his usual won’t make him more succeptible to getting knocked out outside of minor contributing factors like being slightly slower
I know he'll be hitting a bit harder at that weight thats for sure. Im getting hyped up now, i cant wait.
