Fantasy fights are fun to think about, most definitely.

My point is that people saying definitively "Floyd Mayweather Jr would be massacred by Sugar Ray Robinson" or conversely "Mohammad Ali would be beaten up by Mike Tyson" are wrong and can't base their prediction on anything but hearsay.

You can't definitively analyse anything when fighters are eras apart.

The wider the gap the harder it is to make the correct assessment, I agree. It reaches a point were comparing is just plain silly.

This is perfectly reasonable. I fail to see why you're being aggressed by posters who have yet to present something better than arguments of authority.

How can you even compare? He hasn't been in the ring against anyone top class. You could've said the same about Prince Naseem in the 90s... he 'swayed without a guard' and had massive power for his size. I remember a while back people were comparing Jeff Lacy's style and skillset to Mike Tyson.... that he was going to clean up at SMW. Gamboa's only had what...10 fights? You can't really tell anything about a fighter until he's been in with real opposition. He looks good yes, but more talent than Sugar Ray? He's a very good prospect but surely way too early for a statement like that!

Well yeh. Its like p4p lists; its all in the eye of the beholder. If I have Cotto at #4 p4p and you have him at #8 I can disagree with you but really what the hell else am I going to do? It all depends on your own criteria for making your list

Because I broke apart their arguments in another thread, debased every point they had made (about Khan vs Gamboa) and made them look like idiots.

They're arguing for arguments sake, not because they have any real point.

    Agree completely with this.

Although with P4P lists, at least you're ranking in current era and can compare their achievements against fighters of the same era.

It's easier to compare Cotto vs Mayweather than it is Mayweather vs ODLH 10 years ago, isn't it?

Of course it is, even if the guys DLH fought are still active, simply because they were obviously in their prime 10 years ago vs now. An attempt can be made, but once again whats the criteria? And its in-exact even if the criteria is laid down because there are factors that cannot be determined. The "what ifs" would be an endless list!

I haven't been around much lately; I take it this is some sort of ongoing deal for the past week or two?

Yeah bro. The weird thing is, it seems to have gotten worse since the very talented Gamboa showed limited reaction time, poor fundamentals and got dropped on his ass by a journeyman. That might be a bit harsh, but Jimanez was not a great fighter.

    Never mind. ESB baby, ESB.

Jim Watt: "If you're as good as Pernell Whitaker you can keep your hands low and act like [Gamboa], but this guy isn't that good". I do have high hopes for Gamboa, but this thread is a bucket of ****.

That is a bit harsh imo. No doubt Jiminez is not a GREAT fighter (depending on how you define that) but he's no slouch by any means. A good level or two above the guys that Khan is taking on.....sorry I don't mean to bring up that debate

No doubt ESB has been crazy since saturday though; I don't even know what the hell has gotten into ME :rofl

Imagine what might happen on here after Gamboas fight with Rojas.....
