Does Garcia get any credit if he manages to beat Haney after coming in overweight?

No because he is a cheat. He did not even try to make the weight. Came in at 143.2. Derrick James must be pissed off realising he is working with a clown.

I thought Adonis Stevenson got what he deserved. It was unjust for him to become a millionaire after the things he had done.

Maybe, but what Stevenson did was genuinely heinous, compared to Garcia who can only be accused of idiocy fuelled by mental illness. Still in Stevenson's case I see what happened to him to be regrettable; the consequences for his actions should have been doled out by the criminal justice system, which was far too lenient in Stevenson's case. Some may see Stevenson's injuries sustained in the ring as justice biting back at him at a later date, but I don't see it that way.

Anyone who hurt other for profit the way he did, deserves what happened to him.
But I will add that if he indeed changed and regretted his past actions then I do sympathize with him. I do believe people can change for the better and I do believe in forgiveness.
However, I do not feel bad for him.

Not for me. One fighter had to put in the work to make weight while the other did not.

García stands for everything i hate. Getting by easy in life because of his looks and financial situation. He was born in wealth. The amount of women, men, and respect in general he gets just for existing is absolutely mind boggling. He leads life based on what he was born into, not what he worked for. He is a dent in boxing.

Ofc i was being semi serious but i do hope haney beats him enough for him to never ever dare to pick up a glove in his life.

I don’t hate ryan because of his behavior. I genuinely despise who he js a person in general. Ever since i got into boxing 4 years ago, i never liked him. I thought of him as an undeserving prettyboy, kinda like what duran thought of leonard.

Flashy, narcissistic, showoff. He ruins the sport of boxing as does his fans. I remember when i saw tank drop him, i rejoiced while high in my dorm haha

He gets credit, of course, but not going through the trouble of making weight takes away some of it.

Yeah. We give Salido credit for beating Loma so why wouldn’t Ryan get credit?

Derrick sold out. Didn’t give Errol enough attention and sold out for big names like Joshua and Ryan.

    Ordinarily I'd agree.

But then you look how much heavier Haney will be once they're in the ring and you have to ask who's really making a mockery of the rules and sport...
And you can't help admitting it's both of them.

The reason we have weigh-ins in advance is to prevent guys going out there dehydrated (unsafe) because they couldn't make weight any other way - that's been twisted into a carte blanche to dehydrate as much as physically possible to gain maximum possible advantage.

Or in other words... The reason behind advance weigh-ins is to protect each fighter from the other - and in practice what's happening is fighters are risking their own health by cutting dangerously, in order to pose a bigger threat of damaging the other bloke come fightnight. It's ass-backwards.

Unless something is done it'll continue because it's seen as within the rules and the done thing.

Ultimately, IMHO, neither of these guys respects the point of weight categories, but one is less dishonest than the other.

Or put another way... One took bigger risks cutting hard to make a weight they'll be much bigger than on the night.

The weigh-in is a mockery either way - does cutting harder do anything other than hide the truth better?

He's mentally ill, has been turning up to pre-fight pressers drunk, was seen out partying and drinking in a club this week ie. the week of the fight. It's astonishing the fight has been allowed to go ahead.

And unless Ryan has suddenly displaced Haney by becoming the biggest weight bully in the sport and will rehydrate 25lbs as opposed to the 8lbs he rehydrated for his 140 debut, Haney will still a lot heavier.

Let's just assume Ryan rehydrates up to the same weight as Haney (165lbs), he'll weigh 17lbs more than he weighed for his 140 debut. Does that sound like someone who has taking training as seriously as they should have for a fight at the highest level and how will he be able to perform at that weight considering he's never rehydrated anywhere near that much before after the weigh in?

Does drinking alcohol and partying the week of a fight suggest he's in optimum shape?
