I think Sturm is having problems with motivation at the late stage of his career and I'd never have said this a few years ago but on the right night nowadays, any decent fighter is in with a shout. Don't know what's up with Sturm but he's looked a shadow of the fighter he was at times.
I was surprised Geale got the UD against Sylvester tbh but from what I read Shaw worked his fat arse off to get a level playing field. Geale is a busy fighter and his at the peak of his career. I got Gealzaghe by UD
Think Geale will win the fight. May not get the decision though. Likely to be Macklin all over again. It's a pity he hasn't been forced to fight Golovkin, because he wouldn't leave it to the dirty corrupt German judges.
Hard to say with Sturm seemingly happy to give rounds away. Depends how you rate his recent opposition in Macklin, Murray and Zbik. I'd say they are decent with Macklin a problem for most. Thought vs Macklin it was tight with each fighter controlling one half of the fight. The Murray fight was bad scoring in my opinion. Sturm seems to have his jab going again which is huge. He can win a fight through his jab and defence I feel. Sturm close UD. Would not be surprised to see a UD for Geale at all though.:good
Geale is a solid puncher, but certainly not a KO-artist so it's hard to see him stopping Sturm. Regarding the Slyvester fight; if that was a level playing field then I just shudder at the thought of how it could have been without any intervention. In a close fight you had bizarre lopsided scoring of 110-118 for Geale and 110-118 Slyvester. Lucky the third had it 112-118 Geale (For the record I had 116-112 Geale). Also if my memory serves me correctly the TV cameras accidently broadcasted the judges scores before the official ring announcement was made lol. My heart says Geale and my head says Sturm by controversial decision but I'm calling it Geale by SD in a close fight.
Geale's workrate might be a problem for Sturm in the early rounds, but I don't think Geale has much pop, from what I've seen. I think his tendency to drop his hands in the later rounds will cost him. I see a late stoppage for Sturm or a (realistic) 7-5 / 8-4 decision for Sturm. (It could be wider since it's Sturm and Germany, of course.) If Sturm lets his hands go, I don't see him having too much of a problem here. I'm looking forward to it, though, because Geale is definitely a solid MW.
Sturm looked great vs Zbik one of his best performances in a while Geale is good and determined but i dont know if its the right style the problem with many Sturm opponents is they play his game the stand in front of his high guard go glove to glove head to head and thats what he wants or they stay at range but give no angles and eat jab nobody seems to try to go around the fort, Geale has to use his feet create openings and hit what he can Sturm creates a small target but doesnt throw much..Geale just has to provide angles and be busy... or let Sturm lead and try to counter
Sturm had too much trouble with Murray and Macklin, Daniel's a class above those guys. As Porgeous Porge mentioned, Sturm will struggle if Geale is using a lot of movement and throwing lots of punches. That's Geale's style! I'm going with the Calzaghe from down under by close decision.
I share similar sentiments to most of you. I think Geale has what it takes to win, albeit not via knock out, which makes me think a gift decision might be probable considering it's in Germany. Tough one to call.
its geale for me hes to busy & is always looking for the angles i think he wins by a 3 point margin or there abouts. its a good match up tho looking forward to it. cheers
